Life revolves around country clubs and community in Lake Success
Lake Success is a small village at the edge of Great Neck whose landscape and lifestyle are dominated by golf courses. “It’s a country club community,” says Edna Mashaal, the owner and broker of Edna Mashaal Realty. “As a resident of Lake Success, raising my kids here, I think it’s one of the most amazing areas.” The clubs surrounding Lake Success are an integral part of most homebuyers' choice to move here. “When you buy a house in Lake Success, you’re not buying a house, you’re buying a neighborhood. You’re buying a lifestyle,” Mashaal says. “And I’ll never move out.”
Golf, tennis and swimming at Lake Success Golf Club and Village Park
The neighborhood’s country club, Lake Success Golf Club, offers residents a wide range of amenities, including an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse and restaurant. Residents can join the country club for well below the average cost of a club membership. Those who don't want a membership can instead pay an annual fee to use the amenities at the nearby Village Park of Lake Success, including the gym, 11 tennis and pickleball courts and an outdoor pool. Beyond these perks, though, the country club brings the community together through frequent events, giving everyone the chance to get involved and get to know one another. Walking down the streets of Lake Success, it’s easy to see evidence of its sense of community. Neighbors greet one another as they go by on their daily walks, and kids are always out riding their bikes in front of their houses. “It’s a very friendly, young, amazing, diverse neighborhood. Everybody knows each other,” Mashaal says. “If you drive around, everybody’s walking. People are walking, kids are riding their bikes, it’s nice. This is from the heart. I love Lake Success, whoever moves here is very happy.” Other clubs surround Lake Success, providing a wealth of options.
Homes starting at $1.4 million in a competitive market
The calm, tree-shaded streets that Lake Success residents so often walk or bike down are mostly lined with colonials, Cape Cods and New Traditionals. According to Mashaal, these homes generally cost between $1.4 and $4 million, with most falling in the range of $1.6 to $1.8 million. With its unique lifestyle and friendly community, competition to live in the village is fierce, so potential homebuyers should come prepared to pay more than a home’s asking price. “The houses are selling within one week right now. I think the last three houses I sold were on the market for less than a week,” says Mashaal. “There’s a bidding war on every house I put on the market. They’re all going for above asking price.”
Children attend highly rated Great Neck schools
Lake Success is part of the Great Neck Union Free School District, which earns an A-plus from Niche. Children can attend Lakeville Elementary School, Great Neck South Middle School and Great Neck South High School, all of which receive A-plus ratings. This school has repeatedly made Newsweek’s list of the best high schools in America. In addition to its renowned academics, students can participate in 28 athletic teams and about 70 clubs and extracurricular activities.
South Middle Neck Road has a diverse array of restaurants
When they’re in the mood to eat out, most residents follow Lakeville Road until it turns into South Middle Neck Road, which cuts right through Great Neck and serves as its main street. Along this road, you’ll find a wide variety of cuisines from around the world. “We have Japanese, Italian, Israeli, Persian, all kinds of restaurants,” Mashaal says. “It’s a very great, diverse area.” North Shore Farms provides a place for the community to stock up on groceries and other essentials.
LIE and Northern State Parkway, train to NYC from Little Neck Station
Lake Success has easy access to the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway, and Little Neck Station on the Long Island Rail Road is a little less than 2 miles away. The train can take commuters to Pennsylvania Station in New York City in about 35 minutes.
