Lake Tansi appeals to retirees and younger families alike
The community of Lake Tansi surrounds its namesake lake, just a few miles outside Crossville. While the area has traditionally attracted retirees looking for an active lifestyle, younger homebuyers have started to move in as well. “It’s kind of changing and turning into that sort of early family area,” says Jamie Reed, a Realtor with the Real Estate Collective and a resident of Lake Tansi. “A lot of people are coming into that area because of the price point and because of the things they do within their community.”
A broad selection from lakeside houses to manufactured options
The shoreline of Lake Tansi features a high density of waterfront homes. Some inland properties have golf course views, and neighborhood lanes extend out from the lake and the fairway, cutting through woods. “It makes a good mix, because you can go one road over and find a $700,000 home on the lake, or you can go two streets over and find a $250,000 home,” Reed says. Luxurious lakeside homes often go for $600,000 to $870,000, while modest New Traditional builds can sell for $200,000 to $600,000. Manufactured homes go from $30,000 to $200,000. A property owners association covers the community, though Reed notes that monthly dues are low. The CAP Index Crime Score for Lake Tansi is 2 out of 10, lower than the national figure of 4.
Boating and swimming on Lake Tansi, plus sports like golf
The community namesake is also its biggest attraction. Residents can take boats out on the lake from private docks or from the marina. Motorized boats have to keep to Lake Tansi, while kayakers and canoers can venture onto smaller lakes in the area. Lake Tansi also has a beach for swimming and sunbathing. The Thunderbird Recreation Center is near the beach and features the area’s swimming pool as well as tennis and pickleball courts. “You do have to be a member, but they give options for people who are not,” Reed says. Golfers tee off at the Lake Tansi Golf Course, which is open to the public.
Cumberland County schools serve Lake Tansi
The Cumberland County School District receives an overall B grade from Niche. Students in the community can start at B-minus-rated Frank P. Brown Elementary for kindergarten through eighth grade, followed by Cumberland County High, which gets a B. The high school offers roughly 30 clubs and activities.
Scattered restaurants, but more shopping in Crossville
Lake Tansi is mainly residential, save for small marina shops, convenience stores and a few scattered restaurants. The 19th Hole Restaurant serves traditional sports bar fare next to the golf course clubhouse, while the Lake Tansi Restaurant and Lounge offers golf-themed cocktails alongside its steaks and seafood. The Tansi Bait Shop has fishing gear and boat rentals along the water, while gas station markets sell snacks and drinks. More shopping and dining can be found in nearby Crossville.
Events through the area's Property Owners Association
The Lake Tansi Property Owners Association offers plenty of community events, from holiday celebrations to exercise classes. For Independence Day, Lake Tansi puts on a beach party highlighted by games like volleyball. Bands play at the pavilion next to the water during the summer, with live music each Tuesday night. The golf course holds several tournaments yearly, including members-only events and fundraisers for the local high schools.
Quick drive into Crossville for work and other services
Crossville sits roughly 6 miles from Lake Tansi. While some residents are retirees, many commute into town for work. The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency operates an on-demand transit service throughout the area, but most people drive. The Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville offers health services, including an emergency room. Interstate 40 cuts north of Crossville, roughly 10 miles from Lake Tansi. Knoxville is 75 miles away, and McGhee Tyson Airport has the nearest commercial flights.
