Close to downtown and popular shopping areas
While there’s no longer a country club or golf course in the Country Club area of Las Cruces, the neighborhood is still popular for those who want a peaceful suburban lifestyle near essential amenities. “When I moved here in the 1970s, it was the nicest area in town,” says Janine Trujillo, an associate broker with Exit Realty Horizons who’s lived in Las Cruces for 51 years. “The country club has since been sold, and there’s a hospital there now, but they’re still nice homes.”
Downtown Las Cruces and national retailers are all within 2 miles, and nearby parks provide plenty of ways to get outside. Nearby houses of worship include Our Lady of Health Catholic Church and Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. “It's an eclectic neighborhood with long-lasting homeowners,” says Yvonne Rodriguez, a Realtor with Prosper Real Estate who’s sold homes in Las Cruces since 2001. “They like the location to Main Street and Highway 70. They like the schools, the neighborhood and Apodaca Park. It’s got a little bit of everything going on, and it’s a convenient location.”

Midcentury ranch-style homes on quarter-acre lots
Country Club’s three- and four-bedroom midcentury ranch-style and Pueblo-style homes sit along sidewalk-lined streets. “There are a lot of brick homes here, which you don’t see going up anymore,” Trujillo says. “There are some very nice homes that have been renovated, and there are some that are in original condition.” Yards here are large enough for paved driveways and diverse landscaping, including xeriscaping to preserve water, succulent gardens and manicured lawns with ornamental trees.
North of East Madrid Avenue, most homes are on quarter-acre lots and range from 1,300 to 2,700 square feet. Some were built in the 21st century; these newer homes — and recently remodeled homes — typically cost more. Prices can range from $225,000 to $345,000. The houses south of East Madrid Avenue are typically smaller, ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, and they sit closer together on lots that are a quarter acre or less. Prices here range from $175,000 to $273,000, depending on the home’s size and condition.

Weekend picnics in Apodaca Park
At 25 acres, Apodaca Park in the neighborhood’s west is one of the city’s largest. Parkgoers are greeted by Dineh, a 20-foot pine sculpture of a Native American man made by Peter Wolf Toth. On weekends, the park is filled with kids running around the playground, tennis and pickleball players, and people having picnics and birthday parties. In the neighborhood’s east, the Trivitz Trail is a 5-mile paved path that’s “one of the longest walking paths in the city,” Rodriguez says. “There are joggers, cyclists and walkers with and without dogs there.” Unidad Park to the south has a splash pad and wooden jungle gym that are popular with kids; this park sits next to the Hadley Sports Complex, which has 11 baseball fields that host youth leagues.

The weekly Farmers and Crafts Market of Las Cruces
Country Club is less than 2 miles from both Downtown Las Cruces and the shopping centers on Lohman Avenue to the southeast. Downtown Las Cruces has several walkable blocks of local shops, museums and restaurants, including La Nueva Casita Café, a local staple for Mexican food since 1957. Each Saturday and Wednesday, shoppers downtown can explore the Farmers and Crafts Market of Las Cruces, seven blocks of local artists and fresh produce.
According to Trujillo, “Everything is growing on the east side of the city, and it’s easy to get there from Country Club.” The stores here include national retailers like Walmart, The Home Depot and Target; Sprout’s Farmers Market and Albertsons give multiple options for groceries. The Mesilla Valley Mall has over 70 stores for finding the perfect outfit. Local eateries are just to the east, including Caliche’s Frozen Custard, a local favorite for hot dogs and desserts.
