South Lawrence neighborhood close to several destinations
Park Hill is a south Lawrence neighborhood on the doorstep of Haskell Indian Nations University, the only 4-year institution in the world that serves an entirely Native American population. Park Hill's proximity to Haskell means direct access to unique cultural events like Native American art markets and fall and spring powwows on the vast open grounds neighboring the university. “We just have a variety of sporting events and things like that on campus. Art shows. Really just all kinds of things,” says Travis Campbell, director of the Haskell Cultural Center and Museum. While a few local parks are temporarily closed, a handful of small neighborhood parks, with amenities like playgrounds, picnic tables and basketball courts, keep Park Hill residents active. South Lawrence communities like Park Hill are also adjacent to several shopping centers filled with local retailers and new and forthcoming chain brands. “I’m excited for Whataburger because we don’t have one,” Campbell adds. This popular Texas-based burger joint will join the cluster of businesses along West 23rd, which forms Park Hill’s northern bounds. “I like this part of town because of its proximity to downtown and 23rd Street, which is the major artery here, and we're just two blocks south. When you hit the city limit, it’s the K-10,” Campbell says. The K-10 provides south Lawrence commuters with a direct route to the Kansas City suburbs.
Downtown Lawerence is only a few minutes drive and has a lot of great place to eat.

Park Hill has a good variety of ranch style home with nice curb appeal.
Neighborhood with post-World War II styles
Park Hill is populated by many post-World War II era houses situated along a distinct group of winding streets. “They kind of meander around a bit. They aren’t your true north, south, east and west streets. It’s just a different look and feel than your traditional square blocks,” says John Huntington, a Realtor with McGrew Real Estate, who owns a house near the neighborhood. “They started doing it before it was popular, before it was ‘cool,’ so to speak.” The neighborhood’s architecture primarily consists of ranch-style homes and split-levels. although there are also a few two-story houses with Colonial Revival traits available here too. The exteriors of some houses stand out with mixes of clapboard and stone veneer sidings. Price points in Park Hill range from $210,000 for a 1,100-square-foot house to $350,000 for one that’s nearly 3,000 square feet in size. Park Hill is also home to a large and off-market Victorian-era house that stands out among the many midcentury homes. The nearly 8,000-square-foot house sits on a 3-acre lot populated by mature trees.
Southeast Asian and Mediterranean cuisines along West 23rd
Several chain stores exist around The Malls Shopping Center which borders Park Hill. Tucked into a corner of the neighborhood, Checkers Foods provides a grocery shopping option, while several local restaurants can be found along West 23rd Street. Fans of southeast Asian cuisine may enjoy the Thai Diner, while the Fresh Mediterranean Co. serves entrees like lamb wraps and hummus dips in a casual convenience store space. Fans of craft beer can stop by the industrial spaces of the Fields & Ivy Brewery, which encourages healthy meals with choices like its fruit or lettuce bowls. But the brewpub’s options also include pub fare like Reuben sandwiches, fries and pizzas. Park Hill is also less than a mile from the 1900 Barker - Bakery and Cafe, a James Beard award-nominated shop known for its artisanal breads. The ALDI at Pine Ridge Plaza provides another grocery shopping option.
