Quiet, private living in the Willamette Valley

Quiet streets, farms and open fields all contribute to the peaceful and agricultural feel of Lacomb, a small, one-horse town in the Willamette Valley. Around 10 miles from downtown Lebanon, it was established in 1886, with sawmills making use of the area’s woodlands. A handful of small businesses began to pop up in town, including a lunchroom, a dance hall, a post office and a blacksmith shop. Today, a general store, school and church are all that remain, but the community has maintained its small-town feel and know-your-neighbor atmosphere. “It's a tiny farming town,” says Debi Hauer, a local real estate broker with eXp Realty. “You can get a lot of land, and some properties reach 30 acres or more. Folks are drawn to the area by the clean air and privacy. It’s a really quiet community.”

Expansive properties and fenced-in lots in Lacomb

Charming bungalows, ranch-style homes and farmhouses sit on large lots in Lacomb, ranging from 1 acre to over 20 acres. The area is home to numerous family owned farms and many houses feature barns and fenced-in yards for horses or livestock. Most of the community’s houses were built between the late-19th century and mid-1900s, with a few 21st-century homes throughout. Older homes in need of repairs or updates range from $400,000 to $515,000, while larger builds with recent renovations go for $550,000 to $900,000.

Picking up essentials at Lacomb Grocery and enjoying a meal out in Lebanon

Lacomb Grocery sits at the corner of Meridian Road and East Lacomb Road and has a small selection of produce, snacks and other items. For a bigger selection, shoppers can take the 10-mile drive southwest to Lebanon’s Walmart or Safeway. The city’s Main Street is lined with quaint storefronts and eateries, including Darkbloom Coffee Company, which also serves tea, smoothies and baked goods. J&C Bigfoot Grill plates barbecue classics from pulled pork sandwiches to smoked spareribs. Down the road, Barsideous Brewing has classic pub fare and 10 locally brewed craft beers on tap. Main Street is also home to numerous thrift and antique stores, from Ruckus Relics to Et Cetera Thrift Shop.

Recreation on the Roaring River

The 28-acre Roaring River County Park lies a short drive north of Lacomb and has picnic shelters and provides access to its namesake river for fishing and swimming. In Lebanon, River Park has paved walking trails, picnic tables and views of the South Santiam River. Bob Smith Memorial Park has an off-leash dog park, a playground and baseball diamonds that host local league games. “There are a ton of farms in the Lacomb area and neighbors support one another,” Hauer says. “Homesteading has become a big thing here over the years, and people will buy produce, eggs and meat from people in their own community.”
