Eastern Lexington neighborhood poised for some growth
Eastland Parkway is among the cluster of suburban neighborhoods that make up much of Lexington’s east side. Bound by the interstate and New Circle and Winchester roads, this area is viewed as convenient for residents searching for a little more space while still wanting to be close to necessary amenities. Eastland Parkway, along with neighbors like Bryan Station to the north, sits at the gateway of the famed horse country, but is also right at the doorstep of the Hamburg area just to the south — well known for the Hamburg Pavilion, a major shopping center and regional destination. However, some recent and ongoing construction projects are driving more attention to this part of the city. “One of the biggest things drawing people know is the new school there, Frederick Douglass High School, and they’re getting ready to build a new Middle School on Polo Club,” says Brian Taylor, owner of 365 Realty LLC, located in Eastland Parkway. “That area is going to be big for the schools.” Frederick Douglass High opened on Winchester in 2017 just south of the neighborhood’s bounds, while the new Mary E. Britton Middle School will go on Polo Club Boulevard to the southeast. Another major project being built on Polo Club Boulevard is Baptist Health Hamburg, which will be an emergency room and outpatient surgery center. “There’s plenty of land there that they just keep expanding on,” Taylor says, referring to the area around Sir Barton Way, Interstate 75 and Polo Club.

From 1960s ranches to 21st century builds
Similar to some other nearby neighborhoods on the eastern end of the city, Eastland Parkway features blocks of suburban roads lined by many ranch-style houses that date back to the 1960s. Maples, among other mature trees, can be seen in front of some homes providing shade to front yards and sidewalks. In other parts of the neighborhood, like in the southeast corner or in some areas just north of Winchester, there are a number of larger and more modern houses with Craftsman and traditional features. Some of these homes can feature porches and even balconies with classical style columns. Price points for the older single-story homes can run from the upper $100,000s to around $300,000, with overall size playing some role behind the costs. Price points for the more modern Craftsmen and two-story traditional homes can go from the mid $200,000s to around $650,000, with the larger and even more recent builds found on the upper end of that range.

Close to the Hamburg Pavilion
Although they’re not all exactly within the neighborhood bounds, residents can immediately find dining and shopping options on either side of the community. On New Circle Road, there’s downhome and classic breakfast plates at Tudor’s Biscuit World and authentic Mexican selections at Mi Mexico. Numerous other chains are on the other side of Eastland Parkway around Winchester. They include breakfast places like First Watch and downhome cooking at Sonny’s BBQ. This particular commercial district is home to a Walmart and numerous hotel chains. Nearby Interstate 75 provides a quick connection south to the Hamburg Pavilion, an open-air regional shopping center home to a Regal movie theater and many big box and apparel stores.

Free art exhibits at the nearby Castlewood Park’s Loudoun House
Dixie Park, located right within the Eastland Parkway loop, provides an ideal spot for casual strolls, dog walks and even small picnics. The community also shares Kenawood Park with the nearby Bryan Station neighborhood. The park’s amenities include grills for cookouts, along with a basketball court and baseball field. Castlewood Park, with its aquatic center and sprayground for summertime activities, is another popular spot on this side of the city. The park is home to the Loudoun House, one of only five remaining castellated gothic revival villas in the entire country that was designed by the renowned New York architect A.J. Davis. The historic venue regularly hosts free art exhibits.

Holidays with the Radiant Church
The Radiant Church just north of Dixie Park is a community pillar. Among its lineup of events throughout the year is a Christmas dinner, which is usually attended by much of the Eastland Parkway community. The Eggstravaganza in Dixie Park during Easter is the other major community event put on by the church. Residents during the event enjoy free food and the entrertainment includes pony rides, face painting, inflatables and, of course, the hunt for 12,000 Easter eggs. The neighborhood is also a few miles east of Wild Health Field, home of the Lexington Counter Clocks minor league baseball outfit.
