Lansdowne Shadeland East
Suburban Neighborhood in Lexington, Kentucky
Fayette County 40502
Stately Colonials, ramblers and midcentury homes
Mature trees line this neighborhood’s quiet streets, and provide shade to residents as they stroll the community's sidewalks. Dry leaves blanket lawns in the fall, and residents use their yard spaces during the holiday season to put up inflatable decorations. Many homes have footprints of several thousand square feet, and the architecture consists mainly of Colonial Revivals and large ranch-style houses. There are also a few midcentury-style homes, Cape Cods and groups of brick townhouses here too. Housing costs in Shadeland East depend largely on each home's footprint and lot acreage. Homes no bigger than 3,000 square feet primarily run between $400,000 and $800,000, while larger houses on more spacious lots can go from the upper $800,000s to $1.6 million. Townhouses can go from about $200,000 to $420,000.Community meetup point at Ecton Park
Ecton Park is this community’s green space, providing residents with convenient access to several outdoor amenities. Children enjoy playing on the bark-covered playground while parents look on from nearby benches. The park also hosts youth baseball games and provides courts for friendly pickup games of basketball and tennis. The neighborhood is also adjacent to the Arboretum State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, where visitors can explore this 100-acre park and its multiple horticultural gardens and walking paths. The arboretum is especially picturesque during autumn when the seasonal foliage goes on full display. One of the park’s main sections is called the Walk Across Kentucky, where nature lovers can walk a 2-mile path and observe thousands of native plants from the state’s distinct regions. The Bluegrass Region, for example, showcases trees like the blue ash, sugar maple and Ohio buckeye. Nearby, golfers enjoy getting in rounds on the private Idle Hour Country Club's 18-hole course.Highly rated Lexington public schools and private Catholic option
Several highly-rated public schools serve Shadeland East. Cassidy Elementary School gets an A grade from ratings site Niche. Students may then go on to Morton Middle School and Henry Clay High School, which both receive A grades from Niche. Henry Clay is also ranked among the top 10 best public high schools in the state by Niche. Students with qualifying test scores will also have the opportunity to participate in the school's Liberal Art Academy, a rigorous program that includes enrollment and completion of at least 10 AP classes before graduating. The Christ the King Catholic School in the neighboring community of Chevy Chase is a private faith-based option that serves students from prekindergarten through eighth grade. Its distinct activities also include a Kentucky Youth Assembly program, which invites select seventh and eighth graders to observe how the state’s legislature works.Jazz shows, Oktoberfest and Kentucky Wildcats football
Ecton Park hosts a free weekly series called 'Big Band & Jazz' between July and August, and many come out to the park on Tuesday nights to enjoy live music from the comfort of their folding chairs. The Cathedral of Christ the King school also hosts a seasonal Oktoberfest, a more than three-decades-old tradition in the city. This two-day event takes place in September and features beers, German foods and entertainment, including games like bingo and blackjack, or they can try their luck at the cake wheel. Shadeland East also borders the University of Kentucky's athletic park, where fans of the Kentucky Wildcats football team can cheer them on from Kroger Field.Tates Creek Road connection to downtown Lexington
Most residents here are car-dependent and commute to their places of employment, however the Lextran does have a few bus stops on the neighborhood’s outskirts. Tates Creek Road, which turns into East High Street, runs to downtown Lexington about 4 miles to the north. Shadeland East is also about 2 miles north of New Circle Road, a beltway within the city. New Circle goes toward the Blue Grass Aiport, about 11 miles to the west. Shadeland East is a few miles east of Baptist Health and Albert B. Chandler hospitals, the latter of which is UK HealthCare’s flagship campus. Baptist Health is a leading institution when it comes to maternity care.Within walking distance of Wheeler Pharmacy
Several community staples exist along Romany Road. Rise N’ Brine Chicken Biscuits serves hearty breakfasts and the Wheeler Pharmacy is a decades-old institution with a vintage dining area. “The Wheeler’s drug store is like an old-fashioned soda fountain restaurant, where you can get a milkshake and a sandwich, and everybody knows your name. It’s very local,” says Whitney Pannell, the owner of Pannell Real Estate. Those looking for upscale comfort foods and cocktails can stop by the Tulip Bistro & Bar, which has an outdoor patio. Here, guests can start with a fresh fruit salad before moving on to the steak frites, or fish and chips. Kroger is a nearby grocery store, but the neighborhood anticipates the construction of a Publix in the near future at Romany and Duke roads.Important to know
Shadeland East has an overall CAP Index score of 3 out of 10, putting it slightly below the national average of 4.
