Firethorn is an upscale suburb near eastern Lincoln golf courses
Firethorn is a collection of subdivisions on Lincoln’s eastern outskirts, close to the Firethorn Golf Club and the NuMark Golf Course. Wide, winding streets and homes with fairway views give the area a quiet, upscale suburban atmosphere. Realtor Dave Lessor of Manzitto Real Estate, a Lincoln local, calls Firethorn an “exclusive” part of town. “I’m more of a middle-class guy and probably won’t be living out there anytime soon,” he says, adding that the “homes are incredibly nice.” Highly rated schools and quick access to downtown and big employers, including CHI Health and Bryan Health medical facilities, keep the Firethorn market hot.
Single-family homes range from $525,000 to $925,000.
Large New Traditional homes can sell for between $1 million and $2.1 million.

Single-family and townhomes sell for a wide price range
New Traditional and ranch-style homes with attached, front-facing garages, and small front lawns with young trees are common in subdivisions on the neighborhood’s north and south sides, including Wandering Creek, Ravenwood and HiMark Estates. Single-family home prices typically range from $525,000 to $925,000. Townhomes, like those in HiMark Estates, run from about $335,000 to $535,000. In the Firethorn subdivision, large New Traditionals and ranch-style homes sell for between about $1 million and $2.1 million. Most have golf course views and lush, landscaped lawns shaded with elms, cottonwoods and eastern redbuds. “Firethorn is for the very wealthy,” Lessor says. The neighborhood’s median sale price hovers close to $650,000, more than double the city’s median of about $300,000.
Lincoln is vulnerable to tornadoes. Firethorn’s CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, the lowest possible score and well below the national average.
Ranch-style homes are available throughout Firethorn.

Highly rated Lincoln Public Schools
The Lincoln Public Schools district, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche, allows in- and out-of-district transfers by application. Firethorn is zoned to Maxey Elementary, Lux Middle and East High. The elementary and middle schools receive A-minuses from Niche, while the high school gets an A. High schoolers may take dual-credit classes at Southeast Community College or the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Private offerings nearby include Lincoln Christian School (B), as well as Messiah Lutheran School and St. Joseph School, neither of which have Niche grades.
Maxey Elementary School serves students in PK through K-6.
Older students may attend Lincoln East High School.

Firethorn Golf Club, NuMark Golf Course and more outdoor recreation
Firethorn Golf Club is a private country club within the Firethorn subdivision, with a Pete Dye-designed championship golf course. There’s also a short course and a clubhouse with a fitness center and dining, as well as an outdoor pool, splash pad and tennis courts. Golf, swimming and tennis lessons are available. The club also hosts a summer swim team, the Firethorn Flyers. NuMark Golf Course is a 36-hole public course near the HiMark Estates subdivision. Holmes Park, a few miles west, has a playground, picnic shelters, ballfields and a pond with a fishing pier. It’s also home to an 18-hole golf course and the Hyde Observatory, which hosts astronomy presentations on Saturday nights.
The NuMark Golf Club is open to the public.

Shopping and dining on Pioneers Boulevard, Nebraska Parkway
For groceries, there’s a Hy-Vee on Pioneers Boulevard, near a Walgreens, a Hobby Town and an Orangtheory Fitness. The Oven, an Indian restaurant, and Carmala’s Bistro & Wine Bar, an American eatery, are also close. Lessor recommends MoMo Pizzeria & Ristorante for upscale Italian fare. “It’s the best restaurant in Lincoln,” he says. More shopping and dining options are scattered around the corner of the Nebraska Parkway and 56th Street, including Target, Lowe’s and Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill, a popular brewpub.
Firethorn residents can grab their groceries from the nearby Hy-Vee.
Target and other retail are located along Nebraska Parkway.

Getting around eastern Lincoln
StarTran provides bus service to the area. The Heart Hospital route runs from stops on South 84th Street south to the CHI Health Nebraska Heart Hospital and northwest toward downtown. By car, the hospital is roughly 5 miles from central Firethorn. Downtown is less than 8. Bryan Health’s Bryan East Campus medical facilities, big local employers, are less than 5 miles away. Lincoln Airport is just over 12 miles northwest. The small airport offers direct commercial flights to Chicago and Denver, with direct flights to Orlando available beginning in December 2025. Eppley Airfield, a larger airport in Omaha, is close to 60 miles northeast via Interstate 80.
