Lincoln Park is a suburban community north of Kingston

Residential streets fan westward off U.S. Route 9W in Lincoln Park, a New York community framed by Kingston to the south and an expansive retail corridor to the north. The proximity to Route 9W, which traces the east side, and the shopping centers that flank the road are what draw residents to the area. “The value of that area is you’re just off the main drag,” says Alex Stier, a New York State-licensed associate broker with Keller Williams Realty Hudson Valley North. “You’re one block away from the main shopping area for the whole Ulster County area, and yet you can be out walking your dog in the street. That’s the real benefit of Lincoln Park. It’s a little old-fashioned in the way it looks, yet close to everything.”

Midcentury, single-family homes sit close to one another along the quiet streets, offering a balance between suburbia and convenience. Residents can walk to local restaurants and retailers from parts of Lincoln Park. “It’s very close to shopping and the commercial area, so you have the best of both worlds in a sense, where you have community and you also have commercial,” says Stier, who ran the local Home Plate Deli for 25 years. “It’s an old-fashioned, 1950s neighborhood.”

Single-family homes line residential Lincoln Park streets

Lincoln Park’s residential sector is mostly on the eastern half of the community, right off Route 9W. Homes often sit along streets lined with trees and front lawns, though sidewalks are not common in Lincoln Park. “It’s a close-knit community,” Stier says. “It’s where neighbors watch out for neighbors.” Most properties in Lincoln Park have ranch-style or Cape Cod architecture, and homes typically date to the middle of the 20th century. Single-family homes typically cost between $300,000 and $450,000.

A shopping hub concentrated around Route 9W

Most restaurants and retail establishments in Lincoln Park sit on the east side along Route 9W, locally known as Ulster Avenue. Christina’s Restaurant has served Italian dishes for over 30 years, offering both indoor and outdoor dining. Los Jalapenos Mexican Grill and C Gourmet are other popular destinations for international fare, while the Bowery Dugout Restaurant has been a seafood staple for more than 75 years. Other options include comfort food at the Kings Valley Diner or breakfast and lunch menus at the Home Plate Deli. “For 25 years, it was my business of having the hometown deli,” Stier says of the restaurant. “We had breakfast every morning for the highway and fire department guys.”

Lincoln Park locals are close to shopping areas centered around Route 9W. “It used to be called the ‘Million-Dollar Mile,’” Stier says. Grocery shoppers can head to the ShopRite of Kingston, Hannaford or Aldi. Just north, the Kings Mall counts Marshalls, Barnes & Noble and HomeGoods as tenants, while the Hudson Valley Mall has a Target. Closer to the interchange of Routes 9W and 209, a Walmart and Sam’s Club offer more shopping.

Students earn college credit at Kingston High School

The Kingston City School District serves the Lincoln Park Area and earns a B rating from Niche. Chambers Elementary School runs from kindergarten through fourth grade, while M. Clifford Miller Middle School spans grades 5 through 8. Both schools receive C-plus ratings. Kingston High School has an A-minus and is part of SUNY Ulster’s Collegian Program, which allows high schoolers can earn college credit.

Drivers get around with national routes and the New York State Thruway

U.S. Route 9W lines the eastern edge of the neighborhood, connecting to U.S. Route 209 just north of Lincoln Park. The New York State Thruway’s North-South Arterial runs to the west, and drivers can access the highway less than 5 miles from the center of the neighborhood. Albany is under 60 miles north, and New York City sits more than 100 miles south. Ulster County Area Transit has bus stops in the area. Albany International Airport is more than 60 miles north. MidHudson Regional Hospital provides medical care less than 3 miles south of central Lincoln Park.

Municipal parks offer sports facilities in Kingston

Green Acres Golf Club offers a public nine-hole course and a mini-golf layout in the southwestern corner of Lincoln Park. Orlando Street Ballpark has a pair of baseball diamonds and access to the Esopus Creek, which is popular for fishing, swimming and paddling. Loughran Park is home to a baseball field and courts for pickleball, basketball and tennis, and it is slated for improvements in 2025. East of Lincoln Park, Sojourner Truth State Park and Robert E. Post Memorial Park sit along the Hudson River. To the west, the Bluestone Wild Forest is lined by nearly 30 miles of trails, while the Ashokan Reservoir allows fishing and non-motorized boating.

Annual events take place in neighboring Kingston

The Kingston area puts on a number of events throughout the year. The city hosts the Stockade Faire in its Stockade District each fall, where attendees can see live music, shop local vendors, participate in crafting activities and more.
