Lindale, a former mill town outside Rome
The former mill town of Lindale, Georgia, a small community outside Rome, is a quiet residential area with a highly rated school system. “It’s a lot of families,” says Realtor Tony Lane with Elite Group GA. “The majority of people go to the Friday night football games. It’s just that type of town.” The town still takes pride in its historic mill, which today operates as a wedding venue and event space. Lane notes that aside from the school district and the small-town feel, Lindale’s parks – complete with walking tracks, ball fields and indoor facilities - make it stand out from other towns surrounding Rome.
Bungalows, ranch-style and New Traditional homes
Lindale has bungalows, ranch-style and New Traditional homes, with many properties in the community sitting on several acres. Prices depend on the acreage and condition of the property. Most single-family homes sell for prices between $150,000 and $350,000, but some older homes in need of renovations sell for prices below that, and newly built acreage properties sometimes sell for prices above that. Most residential streets in Lindale have curbs, but many do not have sidewalks.
Floyd County Schools is a top Georgia school district
Floyd County Schools gets an overall A-minus grade from Niche and ranks on the site in the top 50 school districts in Georgia. Pepperell Primary School receives an A grade and ranks on the site as the best public elementary school in Floyd County. Pepperell Elementary School and Pepperell Middle School get B-pluses, and Pepperell High School gets a B-minus. Pepperell High School students can take fully funded dual enrollment courses to earn college credit while still in high school.
Wolfe Park and Gilbreath Recreation Center
“I would say the reason why people pick this town over the others near Rome would be the parks,” Lane says. Wolfe Park is a large outdoor space with a playground, walking track, ball fields and a tennis court, and beside it, Gilbreath Recreation Center has indoor and outdoor basketball courts. The rec center hosts community clubs and groups and has meeting and event rooms available for rental.
Small-town shopping and dining options
“There’s not really a town in Lindale,” Lane says. “There may be one red light in that community.” Shopping options include Family Dollar, Dollar General, Ace Hardware and Piggly Wiggly. Residents can pick up meals from Dragon Drive-In, a homestyle breakfast restaurant, Pizza Hut or Subway. Additional shopping and dining options are available 5 miles north in Rome.
