A growing east Texas city with deep musical roots
When people think of live music in the Lone Star State, Lindale usually isn't the first city that comes to mind. But this small east Texas town of just over 6,000 was the fifth city in Texas to earn the governor's distinction as a Texas Music-Friendly Community. Of course, it helps that the city is the home of country music star Miranda Lambert, who played a pivotal role in both earning the distinction and transforming the downtown Cannery district into a vibrant area with five different performing stages. "In Lindale, we're little, but we're very competitive," says Seong MacLaren, director of tourism for the City of Lindale, "When the music-friendly program began, Miranda was very involved. Fort Worth was the first to be designated, and we wanted to be in the top 5. We want to make sure we're retaining our Texas musicians and supporting them." The performance stages are spread out across downtown, with some in popular restaurants like Texas City Music Grill & Smokehouse and some in open green spaces like Darden Harvest Park. Lindale's growing commercial and creative scene has brought significant growth, with a population increase of 25% from 2010 to 2020, according to data from the U.S. Census. And with Lindale's highly rated public schools, many families are flocking to the city's stately brick homes and newly constructed farmhouses. "It's good country living out here," says Carolyn Caldwell, city manager. "New residents come for the schools and stay for the people."
Downtown Lindale is known for being Miranda Lambert's hometown.

Live music in the Cannery District
Downtown Lindale’s Cannery District is the buzzing commercial heartbeat of the city, where shops and restaurants double as performing stages and venues. The district features five performing stages in different venues that host year-round local and national touring acts. Visitors can enjoy tasty brisket ribeye in front of some raucous rhythm and blues at Texas Music City Grill & Smokehouse or head down the street for The Picker's Pavilion, a more-than-100-year-old building refurbished to host 1,000 music-loving guests. Other popular restaurants include Pettys Steak and Catfish and Vienmex.
The Lindale Candy Company has dessert covered, and visitors can see how homemade sweets are made with weekly displays and candy-making classes. And keeping in theme with all things Miranda Lambert, The Pink Pistol is the singer's original boutique, featuring a variety of boots, clothing and locally grown wine. "In the same way a Nordstrom is an anchor in a mall, the Pink Pistol is kind of like an anchor downtown. It’s a huge destination landmark," MacLaren says. "Texas Music City Grill is adjoined with the Pink Pistol, and hosts live music every week. It's a vibrant part of our downtown experience." Main Street Market Antique & Vintage Goods and Troubadour Drifter are two other frequented, locally owned stores. Walmart and Lowe's Home Improvement are in the southern part of the city.

Darden Harvest Park is downtown
Darden Harvest Park anchors recreation downtown. The 23-acre green space is the newest park in the city and features numerous amenities, including an 18-hole disc golf course, lighted walking trails and a stage that hosts performing acts year-round. "It's the most used park in the city," MacLaren says. "As soon light comes up to dusk, people are always out walking or exercising." Pool Park features four baseball diamonds and hosts the Lindale Summer Baseball and Softball Association during spring. Faulkner Park is 4 miles north and highlights the natural beauty of East Texas with paved walking paths that wind around dense pine forests and a 15-acre lake. The park also has numerous athletic facilities, including soccer fields and basketball courts. The Old Mill Pond Museum preserves the area's history with authentic artifacts of American Life circa 1850 to 1950. Visitors can explore the collection of automobiles and tractors or peruse the gift shop's variety of souvenirs and handmade items. Lake Palestine is a popular weekend retreat as the 25,000-acre reservoir offers tons of water-based recreation, including boating and fishing tournaments. The lake is 28 miles away and is one of three bodies of water in Tyler that are friendly to boaters. The City of Landale continuously expands and improves its public green spaces with consistent funding from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, including an $800,000 grant in 2018.

Glasses of reds and whites flow at the Piney Woods Wine Festival, one of the premiere events hosted in Lindale. The annual gathering brings in locally grown wine from 22 different wineries and vineyards along the famous Piney Woods Wine Trail. The event takes place every May in Picker's Pavilion and includes live music. Similarly, The Fall Piney Woods Wine Festival takes place every October. The Country Fest is another local tradition that brings in racing and rocking. The annual October event features everything from 5k runs and car shows to live music and entertainment on the Cannery stage. While these gatherings may be popular with locals, they bring in numerous folks from out of town, which helps benefit the city. "Popular events are international draws that bring people in," MacLaren says. "It always helps and makes a community flourish when you have fun events to lure people." Lindale's eight local hotels have a 7% hot fund tax that helps drive these events.

The Lindale Public School District is one of the city's largest draws. "Lindale ISD is the reason why I moved here," MacLaren says. "We are very proud of our public school system. The community, the parents, the staff, everyone works cohesively and intentionally. I had very high expectations, and the school district completely surpassed them". Lindale ISD teaches just under 4,600 students and receives an overall A rating on Niche. The district emphasizes technology in the classroom, as every K-12 student is issued an IPAD. Lindale High School has won 7 UIL Academic State Championships and four consecutive UIL Marching Band State Championships.
Additionally, the school's Eagle Eye Newspaper and EagleVision broadcast staff have won numerous awards for their online print and video coverage from the Texas Association of Educator's Interscholastic League Press Conference Contest. Classic Ranch-style houses under towering trees
Lindale has more than 50 new and established subdivisions, many of them filled Texas Ranch-style houses with brick facades and pitch-gabled roofs. Ruby Trails is one of the newer subdivisions in the city and has a collection of energy-certified single-family homes. With street names like Abbey Road and Yesterday Drive, the Penny Lane subdivision draws inspiration from famous songs by the British band ‘The Beatles.’ The neighborhood features deed-restricted estates, and residents often come together at the community pool. The Highlands is an established subdivision on the eastern side of town that tailors to families due to its proximity to schools and shopping. Older craftsman-style builds and new modern farmhouses can be found scattered throughout the downtown area.
Single-family homes sold for an average of $399,449 over the past 12 months, a 6% increase from the average sale price from the previous year. Numerous empty plots of land are also available, and half-acre lots range between $49,000 and $65,000. New construction is common due to an influx of new businesses and new residents. "Businesses are starting to move here, so we're in a growth era right now," Caldwell says. "People and developments are always looking at us, and although it takes a while for these things to come, they're coming."
