Belmont Park offers beach access and historic homes
North of Belmont Shore and surrounded by Alamitos Bay, Belmont Park is a coastal neighborhood in Long Beach. It’s one of the city’s older neighborhoods, known for its older homes and views of the water. “Belmont is an older neighborhood, but it doesn’t have that distinction or restriction,” says Cynthia Voss, a Realtor and broker associate with Re/Max, who has been selling Long Beach since 1985. While the old-fashioned homes are sought-after, what really draws buyers is their proximity to the water. Belmont Park is within walking distance of the beach and other favorite Long Beach amenities.

Bungalows near the water
Palm trees and salt air give Belmont Park a coastal feel, even when the ocean isn’t visible. California bungalows built with brick or stucco sit alongside Spanish Revival homes, giving the neighborhood an eclectic appearance. “It’s a lovely neighborhood that was originally developed in the '20s and '30s,” says Voss. “It’s a wonderful neighborhood. It tends to be more affluent. The houses start at a million dollars.” Prices start at $1.3 million but can exceed $2.3 million depending on the size of the home and its proximity to the water. But Belmont Park itself is a fairly small area, and the lot sizes reflect that. “It’s a pretty small section, and the homes are compact. It’s not going to have as much foot traffic compared to south of Second Street,” says Beatrix Whipple, Long Beach resident and Realtor with the Whipple Group serving Long Beach and Los Angeles. “It’s small, beach cottage types of homes.”

Beaches within walking distance and expansion of the bay
The neighborhood's Marina Vista Park and Marine Stadium are currently undergoing a major shift. The city is expanding Alamitos Bay into Colorado Lagoon. This massive construction project will connect both bodies of water by creating a channel, which involves excavating a path through the park. Completion is slated for 2025, when the new bay and the restructured park will once again be open to the public. In the meantime, Belmont Park is just under a mile from Mother's Beach.

Shopping and dining on Second Street
Belmont Shore is only a few blocks from Second Street, one of Long Beach’s most popular thoroughfares for shopping and dining. Locals enjoy browsing shops like House of Intuition and Tilly’s. “Second Street has a lot of great restaurants. Nick’s on 2nd is great,” says Allison Van Wig, Long Beach Realtor and broker since the 1990s. For meals out, residents are within walking distance of local favorites, like Open Sesame and Angelo’s Italian Deli. When shopping for essentials, most residents head to the nearby Vons.

The beach is within walking distance
The neighborhood’s network of sidewalks makes it easy to get around. Walk Score labels Belmont Park as “very walkable,” giving it a score of 75 out of 100. Residents will be within walking distance to parks and beaches, as well as shopping and dining. “It's easy to walk anywhere you want to go,” says Voss. “And the streets are wider, so it’s also easy to drive.” Many residents own a car for getting around town, but the neighborhood experiences little through traffic, making it easy to navigate the area. However, the bay expansion project has disrupted Long Beach's traffic patterns. This does not directly affect the neighborhood, but there will likely be congestion within a few blocks of Belmont Park.
