A waterside community full of unique homes sitting along Diamond Lake
West Shore Park is a small suburban community, located 2 miles south of downtown Mundelein. Unlike many of the surrounding neighborhoods, which are landlocked, West Shore Lake benefits from Diamond Lake running along its eastern border. Here, residents enjoy waterfront living complete with docks and back yard views. Those a little farther removed from the lake’s banks make use of the available boat launch and pier so as to not miss out on lake life. Off the water, the community socializes at neighborhood parks on holidays, during festivals and other regular events forming a tight-knit community that dates back to the early 1990s.

Sunny days on Diamond Lake
Diamond Lake's two private beaches are a popular destination for residents during the summer. "A lot of neighbors do the typical water activities like water skiing, wakeboarding and fishing," explains Mike Davenport, longtime resident and president of the West Shore Park Corporation. The neighborhood boat launch and a community pier to store boats for a small fee make it even more convenient. On land, Diamond Lake Sports Complex often has pick-up soccer and its 9-hole disc golf course that winds through the surrounding woods. A traditional playground Taco Truck Thursdays are a walk away at Miller Park off West Shore Drive, while Robert Lewandoski Park offers a spot to fish.

The homes of West Shore Park
The neighborhoods winding residential streets are narrow and filled with lush forestry, providing a tucked-in feel despite being close to the open water. Peeking behind are homes that sit close to one another, built from the 1920s through the early 2000s, offering an array of architectural styles from traditional waterside wood-paneled exteriors to beach-inspired two-story cottages and quirky custom builds. "It's very eclectic, and there are very few homes that have something in common," explains Davenport. Though front yards are only large enough for minimal landscaping, most feature an outdoor backyard space for entertaining. Potential homebuyers can expect a price range starting $250,000 while a home on the waterfront with a private dock can reach up to $550,000. It's also worth noting that there are monthly and annual fees for the lake's private access, beach upkeep and West Shore Park Association.

Miller Park gatherings
Most of West Shore Park’s community events take place at Miller Park, including Oktoberfest. Guests bring a pack of their favorite seasonal beer to the sampling table, where everyone can try a bit of each. A cornhole tournament, a movie on the lawn and an evening bonfire are all a part of the celebration. Residents also get together for a Summer Beach Party at Beach Block 1, host community autumn leaf clean-ups and group Halloween trick-or-treating.
