Harvard Park
Cozy homes in Harvard Park
The palm-lined neighborhood offers mostly single-family, cozy bungalows, some with unique Craftsman-style characteristics, others boasting Spanish Revival influences. Harvard Park also provides a variety of duplexes at different price points, starting at $750,000. Most were built in the 1920s, ranging from $500,000 to $975,000. Homes display bold colors, sandy neutrals and pastel hues, and each bungalow has unique character and designs – reflecting the eclectic vibe of the area. While residents are close to their neighbors, streets and sidewalks are wide and perfect for strolling around or a morning jog. Lawns are lush and well-kept, many with fenced-in backyards and gated front yards. The heart of Harvard Park
The eponymous outdoor space is the beloved focal point of the neighborhood, hosting festivals, events and neighborhood initiatives. Shred some payment at its skatepark, let the kids play or enjoy one of its eight tennis courts, a $300,000 renovation project gifted in 2023 from The United States Tennis Association Foundation. The park’s baseball fields are an iconic, beloved piece of this community’s identity. Neighborhood kids play regular pickup games here, it’s home to youth leagues like the Azteca Baseball League and was the launching ground for major league baseball players Darryl Strawberry and Eric Davis, who both played for the Los Angeles Dodgers during their careers, and both returned to give back through baseball camps. Jackie Tatum/Harvard Recreation Center also provides opportunities for residents to play and learn. The center offers basketball courts, sand volleyball, a skate plaza, an outdoor pool with a waterslide, self-defense classes, a teen club and other enrichment classes for kids and adults.Diverse and eclectic mom and pops
Normandie Avenue is home to some of the best, most authentic Latin American cuisine and soul food. Salvadoran restaurant Don Lencho is known for its mojarra, a marinated fried fish dish and carne asada or head to Regina’s Restaurant & Pupuseria for pupusas and soups. Primo Burgers is also a popular local spot for pastrami sandwiches and double cheeseburgers. For comfort food, CW and Chris Fish & Chicken satisfies with hush puppies, fried catfish and chicken wings. For essentials, stop into the mural-clad Family Market or hop over to Chesterfield Square, which provides Food4Less, Starbucks, Home Depot, Walgreens and Baskin-Robbins. And at Slauson Super Mall, residents can find a variety of retail vendors. For entertainment, head to Sofi Stadium to catch a Los Angeles Chargers game or the National History Museum of Los Angeles County, both a 3-mile drive.Community pride shines
Community initiatives are the backbone of Harvard Park. The anniversary party is the biggest, held in the park with a ceremonial walk around Jackie Tatum Harvard Park, a basketball clinic, a skate party and other festivities. The American Heart Association hosts an annual “Steps” event in the park, and in the summer, the town hosts “Movies in the Park.” Its City Council provides an annual neighborhood job fair to bring diverse employment opportunities to residents. The Los Angeles Police Department, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and other civic associations have also formed the Community Safety Partnership program to collaborate on supporting and uplifting Harvard Park.Highly walkable and close to it all
Harvard Park is walkable to several shops, restaurants and amenities. Its proximity to Interstates 110 and 10 get residents to Downtown Los Angeles in 7 miles. Los Angeles International Airport is only a 7-mile drive, and the closest hospital is Community Hospital of Huntington Park, 5 miles away. Metro also provides public transit.
