LA neighborhood popular with older and younger residents
Just east of Inglewood lies Westmont, a residential neighborhood offering access to many of the Los Angeles area’s amenities and a wide variety of home options. The area used to be comprised mainly of older residents but has seen a turnaround in recent years with younger families buying their first homes. Residents can stroll along the community’s streets and easily access popular restaurants, retailers or established local schools by car or on foot. “The reason I love Westmont is that it is so close to the west side,” says Celila Martin, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker who has served surrounding LA for over 6 years. “The area also still has not been gentrified, unlike a lot of west side neighborhoods.”
Sizable California roads for cars and sidewalks
Westmont offers nice, wide residential streets, access to Imperial Highway and Manchester Avenue, as well as proximity to major thoroughfares like the 105 and the 110. It’s also common to “see a lot of older people walking around as well as younger families; there is a nice range of ages and cultures,” Martin says. This access on foot and by car means residents are never far from the cultural center of Inglewood, which includes being “so close to SoFi Stadium,” Martin says. Continuing west, locals are about 8 miles away from Los Angeles International Airport. For medical care, residents are only about 4 miles from Centinela Hospital Medical Center, which specializes in emergency services and cardiology. Westmont receives a crime score of seven out of 10 from the CAP Index.

The neighborhood streets edged by palms and hedges lead residents past average-sized lots with front yards, with many also including a driveway and garage. “Many homes were built in the 1930s and ‘40s, and residents really care for their home with maintenance and beautification efforts,” Martin says. Residents can find cozy ranch-style homes and bungalows, as well as a variety of Spanish-style influences with tile roofing and archways. Many multi-unit properties like condos and townhouses are available throughout the neighborhood. Home prices often range from $550,000 to around $900,000, with some million-dollar home options scattered around.

Block parties and Taste of Soul LA
For events, many residents take the fun into their own hands. “Lots of residents throw block parties,” Martin says, “where locals block off the streets, bring out food like a potluck as well as a lot of music and instruments.” Locals can also head to city-wide events near the neighborhood, like Taste of Soul LA, which features dozens of vendors and various live music performances from Queen Latifah to Stevie Wonder. This event is Southern California's most attended family festival and has over 350,000 visitors each October.

Our power line caught on fire recently this year, and it took the department 30 minutes to come out. Houses could've burnt down in that time.

The city has been granted more grants and the change is adding to the community. Some of the older schools, still need to be renovated and not just new paint jobs. The city needs more street art and trees, and to have repaved roads. Not just pothole fixes.
