A forested retreat
Although Twin Oaks is under a mile from a major highway, the neighborhood’s gently sloping hills and established trees lend the neighborhood a peaceful ambiance. One of the smallest cities in St. Louis County, Twin Oaks combines urban convenience with rural privacy. “Twin Oaks is one of St. Louis County's best-kept secrets," says Kathy Bradley, a realtor with Keller Williams Realty. "This fast-growing community offers quiet community living with easy access to highways, restaurants, recreation and shopping."
Most St. Louis suburbs have a wide-open feel, with sparse young trees growing along the sidewalks. Comparatively, Twin Oaks feels like a forest. Its established tree canopy extends high above the rooftops, offering shade in the summer and sparkling with icicles in the winter.

Not just treehouses
Twin Oaks’ residential areas branch off arterial roads and unfurl into winding cul-de-sacs. Most Twin Oaks houses were built between 1950 and 2000, varying in styles from split-levels and ranches to custom-built villas with Tudor-inspired details. Single-family houses come in a range of sizes and prices—from cozy two-bedroom cottages starting at $150,000 to four-bedroom split-levels priced up to $500,000.
Many houses take inspiration from the surrounding forests, using cedar clapboard or charred wood as decorative siding. The average home in Twin Oaks has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and an attached garage and is priced around $250,000.
While condos and apartments are uncommon in this area, attached townhouses can be found in new developments off Dougherty Ferry Road. Two-bedroom and two-bathroom townhouses are priced around $250,000.

Enjoying the outdoors
Twin Oak’s tree-lined streets are great for casual strolls, but the city’s public parks provide even more opportunities to get outside. Twin Oaks Park offers a large playground within walking distance of residential areas, and Ohlendorf West Park is just over a mile away by car. The park features a fitness trail and a playground with a climbing arch, saddle spinners and an ADA-accessible circular swing.
For longer hikes, Castlewood State Park offers extensive hiking through the forests and fields along the Meramec River. Plus, the park’s mountain biking trails are regarded as the best in the St. Louis metropolitan area, and the park entrance is under four miles from Twin Oaks.

Convenient retail and restaurants
Despite Twin Oaks’ easy access to nature, the city is still close to shopping, dining and major highways. Just east down Big Bend Road is an Aldi Supermarket and Schnucks grocery store, ready for grocery hauls and open till 10 p.m. daily. Also off Big Bend Road is 1356 Public House, a neighborhood sports bar and restaurant serving classic pub fare and an expansive selection of craft beers on tap. There’s also Carretas, a Mexican restaurant with dine-in, take-out and catering options. Carretas is highly regarded for its vegetarian options and modern, artistic décor.
Retail shops are located at Stonegate, Creve Coeur and Woodcrest Shopping Centers. With plenty of stores in the shopping centers off Big Bend Road, locals have no trouble finding gifts, household goods and clothing.
