Hazelwood offers shopping, dining, parks and access to the Twin Cities

Hazelwood is a Maplewood neighborhood that offers its residents access to an array of modern amenities. The neighborhood is home to the city’s largest concentration of retail stores and restaurants, a hospital and popular parks in a city known for its recreational spaces. In addition, Hazelwood is bordered by Interstate 694 and close to Interstate 35, putting the Twin Cities within easy reach. “It’s a very convenient first-ring suburb of Minneapolis and St. Paul,” says Jason Huerkamp of Keller Williams Preferred Realty, who sells homes throughout the region. “That area continues to grow. There’s a ton of growth on the east side of the Twin Cities because of all the land that’s available.”

Realtor says Maplewood offers "good bang for your buck"

The neighborhood offers an eclectic mix of single-family homes, with prices ranging from $250,000 to around $900,000. “Overall, Maplewood has really good bang for your buck. It’s not as expensive as some of the other suburbs,” says Huerkamp, who adds that a lot of residents own their homes, and that Hazelwood is appealing to families and young professionals. The community’s oldest homes date to the early 1900s, but midcentury designs are prominent. Traditional single-story ranch-style homes and multi-level homes are common. Many homes sit on spacious lots with large lawns. Streets are quiet and walkable, despite no sidewalks. And mature trees add to the attractive residential settings. The community’s newest and most expensive homes are large contemporary models in a subdivision setting tucked into the neighborhood’s northwest corner near the intersection of Maplewood Drive and I-694. The neighborhood also offers plenty of contemporary townhomes, including traditional attached units and detached offerings, and some have attached garages. Townhomes are concentrated on the neighborhood’s north side near all the shopping and dining. Prices range from $220,000 to $350,000.
