With a manufacturing history of over 150 years, Marysville is one of the many cogs in Central Ohio's industrial heritage. With so many moving to the area for work, this seat of Union County has also maintained a reputation for community. "The people here care and want to see each other thrive," says Katie Crocco, a broker at Re/Max Winners. "It's part of the local culture." Growing steadily since the turn of the 20th century, Marysville is changing, reinventing itself with an eye toward nurturing a fun, family-oriented environment. "Our historic uptown is showing more signs of life, year after year," says Scott Hunter of the Marysville City Council. "We've got a focus on revitalization."

Growth leading to steady construction
The median price for real estate in Marysville falls in the mid-$300,000s, lower than the national average in the low $400,000s. "Many people come here for the relative affordability compared to other Columbus-bordering suburbs," says Hunter. "Marysville tends to have lower housing and property taxes." The city's central region has the highest concentration of historic centennial homes. Neat rows of 21st-century Contemporary Craftsman homes fill neighborhoods like Woodview Park. Brand-new and planned construction is popular in areas like Greenwood Park.
Marysville's economy primarily centers around manufacturing, with Scotts Miracle-Gro and Honda represented with major plants. Memorial Hospital, which recently implemented a $50 million renovation, is also a major employer. Other job creators include Marysville Schools and Nestle.

Top STEM programs for high schoolers
The city's students are served by Marysville Exempted Village School District, which has an A-minus from Niche, which recognizes its excellent teachers and administrators. "Our STEM school is exceptional," says Crocco, referring to Marysville STEM Early College High School. "Thanks to its dual enrollment program, kids can graduate with a two-year associate's degree." Partnerships with area businesses are also common, including internship opportunities provided by Honda.

Locally-owned storefronts uptown
Rejuvenating the city's uptown district has led to a boom in local businesses. "We have new restaurants and businesses there, as well as a co-op space," says Crocco. "They're all mom-and-pop places that we love—you've got people waiting in line because they're doing so well." Outside of the main drag is no exception, with franchise restaurants and big box stores opening up on the city's outskirts. "We'd love to see more local places out there," says Crocco. "But it's what people gravitate toward." Approved in 2024, the Water and Light District Silo Project will convert decommissioned silos and the surrounding land into apartments, restaurants and entertainment venues. "They're going to keep elements of the original structures," says Hunter. "It'll be a combination of the old and the new."

Walking trails through nature preserves
Widespread foliage and greenspaces have earned Marysville the nickname the "Shaded City." The Department of Parks and Recreation maintains over 600 acres of natural public space. Perhaps the most popular is the American Legion Park—home of the city's municipal pool. MacIvor Woods is a 60-acre nature preserve with miles of trails through undisturbed wilderness. "If you want a serene environment, that's the place," says Hunter.

A culture of cars
U.S. Route 33 is one of the area's main thoroughfares, connecting to Columbus, some 30 miles southeast. Marysville has no public transit, necessitating a car for most locals. "It doesn't come up often because Honda attracts a lot of gearheads," says Crocco. "We've got a unique culture of vehicles because that's the industry here." The nearest public airport is John Glenn Columbus International Airport, which serves over a million passengers annually.
