Peaceful, small-town atmosphere

Muse was once a small coal mining town in West Pennsylvania. Today, it’s a rural neighborhood full of houses sitting on rolling hills. “It’s a nice, small town,” says John Fincham, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty who has worked in the area for nearly two decades. “You blink your eyes and you’re right through the town.” This rural town, 20 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, offers a peaceful atmosphere with acres of hilly green space. "Muse is for people who like small-town living; those who are overwhelmed by masses of people," says Terra Bradley, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Washington, who was born and raised in the area.

Muse Italian Independent Club offers a lowkey club experience in a gathering spot with food, beers, cocktails and lots of sports entertainment.

Well-regarded schools in Muse

The area is part of the Canon-McMillan School District. This is considered a very good school district, says Brenda Deems, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway The Preferred Realty who has worked in the area for over two decades. “Most people want their kids to go to school here,” she says. Children can attend Muse Elementary School, which receives an A-minus from Niche, for kindergarten through fourth grade. This school has an active parent-teacher organization that sponsors classroom parties, book fairs and educational programs. For grades five and six, kids can move on to Cecil Intermediate School, which receives an A-minus. Students advance to Canon-McMillan Middle School, which earns an A-minus, for grades seven and eight, and then on to Canon-McMillan High School, which is rated B-plus by Niche. There aren’t any private schools in Muse, and the Holy Rosary Church - St. Oscar Romero Parish is the only church in town. The Church at Southpointe is just 4 miles away.

Muse Italian Bar, Country Fixin’s

Since Muse is a rural, residential area, the nearest grocery stores are a few miles away. Shop ‘N Save or In-N-Out Grocery Store are the two go-to grocers. Southpointe Town Center is a main street-style shopping mall just 5 minutes away with hotels, restaurants, a nail salon and a coffee shop. Office space is also here, with some being occupied by a dentist’s office and a barre studio. Muse Italian Bar is the go-to eatery in town. During Lent, the line for the weekly fish fry is out the door, Bradley says. Country Fixin’s serves classic comfort dishes and offers catering.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
