Mount Hood is also near U.S. Route 1 and three transit stations, allowing commuters to get to Boston in 15 to 35 minutes.

Single-family homes near Mount Hood Memorial Park & Golf Course

Single-family homes surround the golf course along winding roadways. Many houses have large, manicured front and backyards with in-ground pools. Houses are in the Cape Cod, split-level and Colonial Revival styles with a median build year of 1954. Prices range from $750,000 to $900,000. Larger homes near the golf course range from $1 million to $1.3 million.

Golfing, hiking and events

The Mount Hood Memorial Park & Golf Course encompasses a lot of the community's recreation. It has hiking trails and cross-country skiing and sledding in winter, andthe four-story Slayton Memorial Tower offers a view of the park with the Boston skyline in the distance. The Mount Hood Golf Club is open to the public and has an 18-hole course and an indoor golf simulator. It also has a clubhouse that can be booked for private events and hosts public events such as Senior’s Day at the Park and an annual Children’s Holiday Party. Nearby, the Towners Pond/Swains Pond Conservation Area has trails and open green spaces.

Students attend highly rated schools in Melrose

The Melrose Public Schools, which Niche gives an A-minus, serve the area. There are six elementary schools in Melrose, and the school district assigns each incoming student to a school based on space, family preference, special programs and proximity to residence. The closest elementary school to Mount Hood is Hoover Elementary, which receives a B-plus. Students continue to Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School and Melrose High School, which both receive an A-minus. Melrose Middle and High School has an award-winning drama program.

Events in Melrose

The Melrose Farmers’ Market in Bowden Park, 2 miles east, runs every Thursday from June to October with a Harvest Market in November and a Holiday Market in December. Each September, the Victorian Fair is held along Main Street. The fair celebrates Melrose becoming a city during the Victorian period and offers vendors and entertainment.

Commuters use public transport and Route 1

“Most residents commute to Boston for work,” says Todd. “There are three commuter rail stops in Melrose itself.” Melrose’s three train stations on the Haverhill line are: Melrose Highlands, Wyoming Hill and Melrose/Cedar Park. All stations are 2 miles from Mount Hood and reach Boston’s North Station in 15 to 20 minutes. By car, Boston is about 35 minutes using Route 1. The MelroseWakefield Hospital is 2 miles away and the Boston Logan International Airport is 9 miles south. The Incarnation Catholic Church is the only house of worship in Mount Hood.

Shopping and dining on Main Street

Most shopping and dining are along Main Street, a mile away, including the popular Turner’s Seafood Grill & Market. Giacomo’s Ristorante serves classic Italian seafood. Further up Main Street, Shaw’s and Whole Foods Market sell groceries. More strip malls, restaurants and retailers line U.S. Route 1, about 2 miles away. The Square One Mall is along this route and has a T.J. Maxx, a Macy’s, a Best Buy and other popular department stores as well as a food court.
