Westwood

Brick ranches with a quarter acre of land
Westwood is full of long streets lined with brick ranches listing between $75,000 and $125,000. Streets here lack sidewalks and have carports where people can park their cars off the street. Trees are sporadic, with some yards featuring plenty of shade and others remaining more open. Some people mark their properties with chain-link fences, while others don’t, which is all to say that residents in Westwood customize their properties to fit their needs. Depending on the part of the neighborhood, some homeowners can enjoy a quarter of an acre of land.Wings along Blues Highway and BBQ by Graceland
Blues Highway to the east of Westwood is lined with fast-food chains for a quick meal option, but residents can also find plenty of local wings joints, like Rayford’s All In One Hot Wings and Don Don’s Hot Wings. KC Southern Fried Rice serves Polish sausages, fried catfish and fried rice bowls. At Marlowe’s Ribs and Restaurant, people enjoy Southern classics like pulled pork barbeque and brisket, but the restaurant also features a fleet of pink limos that shuttle guests between the restaurant and Graceland. Safeway is off Blues Highway, just 2 miles from the neighborhood. Four miles away in Whitehaven Plaza Shopping Center, people can shop at Aldi. Southland Town Center features a Kroger, just 5 miles from Westwood.Elvis Week in August and RiverArtsFest in October
Every August, Graceland honors the King with Elvis Week—a week of celebrations and activities for tourists and Memphis locals. Graceland opens exclusive tours of Elvis’s house, allowing visitors to dive deeper into his personal life. For entertainment, people can watch Elvis impersonator and tribute artist contests and watch a live band perform to footage of Elvis. Because Westwood is so close to downtown Memphis, people can also attend festivals and concerts in the city, like RiverArtsFest. This October weekend event features over 200 artists, offers hands-on activities for kids and provides artistic demonstrations. Delta Fair and Music Festival lasts for ten days in September and showcases national and regional musicians. Locals can participate in a number of competitions, including those for livestock, photography, cooking and pageantry.AP and CTE classes at Westwood's schools
Students in Westwood can attend Ford Road Elementary School for preschool through fifth grade. Chickasaw Middle School serves students sixth through eighth grade and offers career technical education (CTE). In the heart of the community, Westwood Park features an outdoor pool and the Charles E. Powell Westwood Community Center, where locals can use the indoor basketball courts and gym. The playground pavement here is painted in fun shapes and colors for a more colorful play experience. Otis Reading Park’s playground has popular pavement games like four square painted directly on the blacktop. T.O. Fuller State Park has over 8 miles of trails, with some paved and some offering biking opportunities. Visitors and locals can take advantage of the park’s campsites.
Residents can take the bus down Blues Highway
While Westwood’s neighborhoods might feel less walkable without sidewalks, residents can take the buses along Blues Highway to get to grocery stores and restaurants.
