Midfield offers a host of suburban amenities outside Birmingham
Midfield is a city on the move. This small town south of Birmingham is home to a tight-knit community. Neighbors come together for river clean-ups, basketball games at the recreation center, picnics in the park and more. The town is made up of Craftsman and National-style homes and full-brick ranch-style houses, with prices ranging from $40,000 to $190,000. Midfield is also home to local eateries like Church's Texas Kitchen, Bre's Gourmet Restaurant and Urban Smoke Bar and Grille. Groceries and household necessities are found at the town's Piggily Wiggly. In addition to its strong sense of community, proximity to downtown Birmingham, and easy access to shopping and dining, Midfield emphasizes outdoor living through its parks and trails.

Activities at Midfield Park and the Midfield Recreation Center
Midfield Park is a popular spot for community gatherings, with a playground and ample space for picnics and barbecues. Locals can escape the Alabama heat at the park's splash pad, youth leagues can practice at the park's baseball fields and friends can play tennis at the area's courts. Canine companions can run and play at the dog park, and local anglers can fish at the park's lake. The Midfield Recreation Center has an activity for just about anyone. Its newly renovated weight room has treadmills, stationary weights, dumbbells, a sauna and locker rooms. Residents can also get boxing lessons from "Sweet Lou" Hawkins, take Zumba classes, explore tap, ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance or attend community meetings at the recreation center.

The High Ore Line Trail connects residents to scenic Red Mountain Park
Residents can access the High Ore Line Trail from the town. The tree-shaded 3-mile trail passes over several large roads, three active railroads and Valley Creek, offering scenic views of the water. In 2019, an extension was added to the trail and connected it to Red Mountain Park's Venice Road entrance. Through the park, hikers and bikers can connect to the BMRR South Trail, part of a network of several paths. Visitors to Red Mountain Park are transported back in time, as it's one of the country's largest industrial archaeological sites. Hikers can discover old landmarks and artifacts from the area's mining past through scenic trails, while adventure-seekers can whiz through the mature trees along the park's zip line. Of course, there's plenty to experience on foot. The park has 16 miles of multi-use trails that wind through 1,500 forested acres.
Locals can also bring their canine companions to Remy's Dog Park within Red Mountain Park. Recognized by Southern Living magazine as one of the "10 Great Southern Dog Parks," this doggie oasis has three separate dog parks with shaded areas, benches and open spaces for pups to run and play. The park also has treehouses for visitors to enjoy. Haskell's Hideaway is a nearly 2-mile hike from the welcome center, along the Smythe Trail or via the SkyHy Ridge Trail. Locals can cross a long, swinging bridge to the large platform built around a tree that soars into the sky. Visitors enjoy incredible panoramic views of the park from its viewing platform.
