A rural, Weld County community with a growing population
In the plains of Northern Colorado, roughly 25 miles from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Milliken is a rural city with quiet, walkable streets where neighbors know one another. Between Greeley and Longmont, there's limited traffic and a peaceful atmosphere without being too far removed from the conveniences of larger cities. United States Census Bureau estimates the population is over 9,000 as of 2023, an increase of over 3,000 from the 2013 estimate. “The whole Weld County area has been growing rapidly in recent years,” says Morgan Merriman, a Realtor with C3 Real Estate Solutions specializing in the Northern Colorado region. “But Milliken has maintained more of a small-town vibe than nearby communities like Johnstown. The population growth is slower here because it’s not as close to the interstate.” The area served as a trading post in the 1860s, and the surrounding land was developed into sugar beet farms and cattle ranches. Agriculture remains a central part of Milliken, with hundreds of acres of farmland between its residential pockets.
