With a plethora of recreational opportunities just miles from the beach, homeowners in Millville might feel like they’re living in a resort. “It’s a growing community, and most of the homes have a lot of amenities,” says local Realtor Donna Hardy with Northrop Realty. “It’s like you’re going on a vacation when you buy a home, and I think a lot of people want that feeling.” Millville is a small southern Delaware town of just under 2,000 people. Residents here have ample access to the beach, with the town of Bethany Beach just a few miles away and Fenwick Island State Park nearby. But the amenities at home are the main selling point, offering an active lifestyle for residents who want more than just sand and ocean.
Classic styles in a growing town
Most homes in Millville are coastal Craftsman homes with vinyl siding, spacious porches and roomy built-in garages on the front of the home. There is plenty of development in the area, and many homes for sale are new builds. Many houses have stone features on the exterior in addition to the siding. Homes often come in coastal colors such as blue or gray, but there are some red and yellow homes. Most houses in Millville are built relatively close together, but some have good-sized yards with room for children to play. Sidewalks connect the front lawns and offer walkability through the subdivisions. A single-family home in Millville will likely cost between $500,000 and $600,000. There are some townhouses available as well, also built with Craftsman features. These homes usually cost between $300,000 and $450,000.

Serving up some fun
Millville residents have plenty of nearby options for recreation. Evans Park is a city park with room for several activities. Residents can grab a paddle and play a game of pickleball or work out on the outdoor exercise equipment. The park has an expansive playground where children can play and a 1/6-mile walking trail that offers more room for exercise. Many of the subdivisions have recreational facilities of their own. Millville By The Sea residents can take advantage of the pickleball and bocce courts at the lifestyle center. “The outdoor pickleball courts are a big thing because people from the different communities will get together and play against each other,” Hardy says. The neighborhood also has an outdoor pool with play structures. Residents can kayak on the small neighborhood lake or meet with friends for a seafood boil at the crab shack. The Bishop’s Landing subdivision also has two swimming pools, tennis courts and a dog park. While several activities are available within the neighborhood, residents are also just 4.5 miles from the beach, and some communities even offer shuttle service during the summer.

Highly rated Indian River schools
Students in Millville can attend Lord Baltimore Elementary School, Selbyville Middle School and Indian River High School. Selbyville Middle is rated a B-plus by Niche, while Lord Baltimore Elementary and Indian River High each receive A-minus ratings. Students will have a short commute to Lord Baltimore Elementary in nearby Ocean View, but Selbyville Middle and Indian River High are each about 8 miles from Millville. Indian River serves approximately 1,000 students with a student-teacher ratio of 13-to-1. The school is known for its successful athletic programs and community service-focused clubs, including the Leo Club and Enviro-Act Club.

Selbyville Middle School is an above average, public school located in Selbyville, DE.

Seafood and sandwiches add local flavor
A few popular restaurants in town offer a variety of dining experiences for residents. Hardy recommends Al Casapulla’s Subs & Steaks, a local eatery serving pizza and sandwiches. The restaurant has been featured in several publications as one of the best restaurants in the state and is best known for its cheesesteaks. Hooked Up Ale House & Raw Bar is a popular sports bar and seafood restaurant in the Millville Town Center. Locals enjoy the happy hour drink specials and raw oysters. Grocery shopping is convenient with a Giant next to Hooked Up in the Millville Town Center. Locals can also pick up food and household items at Weis Markets across the street or Hocker’s Super Center just east of Millville on Atlantic Avenue. There are several convenience stores and pharmacies nearby, including Rite Aid and Dollar General.

Walkable communities a short drive from the beach
Each subdivision in Millville is walkable, with plenty of sidewalks and walking paths throughout the neighborhoods. Residents can quickly get to the clubhouse or amenity center in their subdivision. Millville residents will need a car to travel outside their immediate community. Bethany Beach is about 4 miles east along Atlantic Avenue. Millsboro is about 11 miles west and home to stores like BJ’s Wholesale, Aldi and Lowe’s.
