The naval base and new jobs bring in new Milton residents
The Milton neighborhood keeps its residents busy with public parks, paved walking trails and annual events. They stay moving all year long, but activity cools off with the winter weather. “Milton mainly has single-family homes, and more are being built,” says Becky Holcomb, a Realtor at RE/MAX Infinity since 2011. “A new Amazon distribution center and county corrections facility is bringing in more jobs and new residents.” Military personnel also come and go from the Naval Air Station Whiting Field, but long-term residents enjoy easy access to Pensacola Beach and miles of outdoor destinations.
Fresh air at Blackwater Heritage State Trail
Those who want to bike, hike or walk on paved trailways visit Blackwater Heritage State Trail. The paved path winds around Milton and all the way up to the Naval Air Station Whiting Field. Guests can take a break at the visitor center before getting back on the trails. Future basketball MVPs head to Lucille Johnson Park on Mary Street to practice their skills on the court. Locals old and young can visit Carpenter’s Park to cool off on the splash pad, stop by Optimist Park to take their pups to the dog park or swing by Steven Morgan Skate Park to practice new tricks.

Ranch homes welcome civilians and sailors
Milton has properties available to future homeowners and renters. “About 70% of residents are homeowners, and the rest are renters,” says Holcomb. A 1960s ranch-style home with three bedrooms might sell for $250,000. Ranch-style houses with brick siding and hipped roofs can sell for $345,000. Holcomb also says homes built as recently as 2023 can be found along the neighborhood’s outskirts. Residents without attached garages park on their uncovered, paved driveways. The naval base sits north of the neighborhood and brings in new residents to the Whiting Field Homes community as military personnel are assigned to the area.

Touchdown at Milton High
Kids can start out at W.H. Rhodes Elementary School before advancing to Hobbs Middle. Students at Milton High School can try out for the state championship-winning football team or the prestigious Mighty Black and Gold Marching band that was organized in 1940. “My kids went to school at Milton High and had a great experience," Holcomb says. "They have some really great teachers." All three schools get a B from Niche. Holcomb also says some parents send their kids to the popular Pace High School 9 miles away.

Milton residents are highway travelers
Residents rely on their cars to get to work or shop at local stores because Milton has no public bus routes. Thankfully, U.S. Route 90 provides quick access to shopping and dining options in Pace. Those looking to tan on sandy shores take Avalon Boulevard to relax at Pensacola Beach.

This home’s got the kind of quaint charm that makes you slow down a little, back to when folks actually sat on the porch and talked to each other.
