A quiet suburb near a river, woods and a shopping mall
Surrounded by the river on three sides, Milwaukee River Parkway is a tranquil suburb on the nexus of outdoor recreation, retail shopping and highly rated public schools. That hardly sounds like an urban lifestyle, but residents can hop on the freeway and enjoy the conveniences of Milwaukee city living. Homebuyers are also drawn to the neighborhood because it is less than a mile west of a major shopping mall, and it doesn't hurt having a couple of acclaimed public schools nearby. "There is so much natural beauty. People picnic on the parkway when it's warm and ice skate on the river in the wintertime," said Realtor Linda Hanson, who sells houses in the neighborhood with First Weber Realtors.

Greenspaces ideal for hiking and watersports
Few neighborhoods within Milwaukee's dense city limits are as attractive to nature lovers as Milwaukee River Parkway. There is, of course, the river itself, which residents can visit via wooded paths directly east of the neighborhood. But the river has an even grander presence to the south in Lincoln Park, where folks can spot the water from nearly every major attraction, be it the nine-hole golf course, the two soccer pitches on the park's central island, or the David F. Schultz Aquatic Center. The latter features all the excitement of a major water park, from winding slides to a lazy river. Friends of Lincoln Park board member Anne Stadler Vaillancourt said the various water features might be the park's most significant draw for families. "If you look around the area, access to pools is very low on the North Side," she said. "We also have an area on the river that we use as a launch for kayaking."

German-style eats and access to Bayshore mall
There are several shops and restaurants in Glendale, including international chains and local haunts like The Bavarian Bierhaus, on West Lexington Boulevard. This 15-barrel brewery has stood for over 60 years and hosts year-round festivities, including live polka performances and a six-week Oktoberfest celebration every year. And, of course, it's an ideal spot to sample various brews or dig into German-style eats like the chicken schnitzel sandwich or potato dumplings. For something sweet to top off a Bierhaus meal, Kopp's Frozen Custard operates just a block east, offering a massive menu of creamy treats. The Bayshore indoor-outdoor shopping center is east of Interstate 43. The bustling indoor-outdoor shopping center includes franchises like Five Guys, Potbelly, Pizza Hut and Starbucks. Its retailers include Barnes & Noble, Bath & Body Works and Target.
