A small community along the Meander Creek Reservoir

Over the eastern shore of Meander Creek Reservoir is a small, unincorporated community with a population of just over 4,000. Mineral Ridge is a residential corridor between Austintown and Niles, only 10 miles from Youngstown. Branching off the community’s thoroughfare, South Main Street, are established homes, local restaurants and well-rated public institutions.

Housing in Mineral Ridge is predominantly from the latter half of the 20th century. Buyers will find Cape Cods and ranch-style homes with an average of 1,500 square and three to four bedrooms on lots just over a quarter-acre. Mixed in, are traditional colonials and split levels that offer around 1,700 square feet with four bedrooms. Homes are often priced between $100,000 and $250,000. Students only attend two total schools

Kids growing up in Mineral Ridge attend schools within the Weathersfield Local School District, which earned an overall B-plus from Niche. Students attend Seaborn Elementary School for kindergarten through sixth grade and Mineral Ridge High School for seventh through twelfth grade. Seaborn Elementary earned an A-minus from Niche, and Mineral Ridge High earned an overall B. High schoolers have several options for extracurricular activities, including history club, science club, drama club and ski/snowboarding club.

Locals head to Niles for outdoor recreation

When locals want to get outside, they grab their bikes and hit the Niles Greenway. The 4-mile paved path travels from Mineral Ridge into its northern neighbor, Niles. Because there are no parks in Mineral Ridge, locals bring their families to the parks in Niles when they want to spend time outside. The Niles Greenway leads toward Murphy Park, which has a small playground, a basketball court and ample green space. Or, locals enjoy the amenities at Woodland Park. The park has a playground for the kids, tennis courts and a sand volleyball court for local athletes.

Locals bars and coffee shops off South Main

There are a few local spots along South Main Street to grab a drink or a bite to eat. Cadence Coffeehouse and Creperie serves the community as a coffee shop and a nonprofit organization, helping local youths develop a sense of community and professional development while crafting tasty espresso drinks, crepes and baked goods. For dinner and drinks, locals head to the Ice House Inn. The sports bar features American favorites like burgers, wings, fried pickles and craft beers on tap. Ice House is a popular spot for karaoke and frequently hosts local musicians. When locals need to restock their pantries, they head three miles south to Austintown. Locals can choose from options like Walmart Supercenter or Giant Eagle Supermarket.

Getting around Mahoning County

Public transportation is not directly accessible in Mineral Ridge, but residents can hop on the bus in Austintown. The Western Reserve Transit Authority can take locals across Mahoning County. Locals who commute often use Highways 80, 680, and 46. If traveling into Youngstown, residents have a 10-mile trip eastbound on 680.
