A walkable neighborhood on the lake
With lakeside views and easy access to bustling Uptown shops and dining, East Isles is a highly sought-after Minneapolis community. Today’s residents can walk to nearby restaurants and cafes, or simply enjoy the tree-lined streets and stunning architecture within the neighborhood. “It’s one of the best neighborhoods in Minneapolis, and it’s because of the location,” says Realtor Jennifer Bush of Keller Williams Integrity Realty, who has an office in Uptown and used to live in East Isles. “It’s right next to the lake, so it’s great for walking, paddle boarding and cross-country skiing in the winter. But it’s also got walkability and accessibility to restaurants and coffee shops in Uptown.”

Rich residential architecture
East Isles is best characterized by its rich architectural features, including homes with stately columns, stylish Tudor Revival features and elegant entryways to give homes distinct individual identities. Lakeside properties are particularly elegant, with spacious lots, custom architectural features, and generous floorplans. “These are older, well-maintained homes. You’ll see a lot of Craftsman homes and Four Squares. You’re usually going to have at least two floors,” Bush says. While the average sales price of homes is around $544,000, prices can reach up to $4 million for one-of-a-kind homes. There are also stunning architectural features from notable architects, like the Purcell-Cutts home, a Prairie School-style house designed by architects George Grant Elmslie and William Gray Purcell that is now part of the National Register of Historic Places.

The neighborhood association also hosts monthly meetings to discuss topics of interest for the community.
Lakeside parks, paths and greenways
While only some residents enjoy lake views from their patio, the entire shoreline is part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park. Bde Maka Ska is popular for boating and has several public beaches along its shores. Lake of the Isles is smaller and tends to have fewer visitors. It’s also a great spot for ice skating in the winter. Four-legged visitors can explore the Lake of the Isles Dog Park, a spacious and shaded spot for off-leash play. Cyclists have no shortage of trails to explore. Miles of paved trails circle the lakes, and the Midtown Greenway stretches east to the Mississippi River.
