What the area's single-family homes and duplexes can cost

The neighborhood has a lot of bungalows and cottages, but also some larger homes that help it stand out from nearby communities. “Folwell has absolutely gorgeous Tudor Revival homes,” says Constance Vork, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Integrity Lakes. There are also American Foursquares among other styles. These single-family homes can range from the lower $100,000s to the lower $300,000s. Side-by-side and up-down duplexes often sell between the upper $200,000s and the mid-$300,000s. Units in Bremer Way Condominiums can run from about $45,000 to around $90,000, with HOA fees between $500 and $550 per month. Roughly 40% of residents are renters, who tend to live in houses more often than condos or apartments. The neighborhood’s prices are in line with those in communities like Jordan and McKinley, but they are usually lower than in nearby Cleveland.

It's easy to walk through the neighborhood

Folwell is one of nine neighborhoods that make up the greater Camden region of north Minneapolis. The community is quiet and mostly residential. Its wide, gridded streets have sidewalks shaded by a variety of trees. People often walk to a neighbor’s house or to a nearby park. Lowry Avenue North has striped bike lanes, making it easy for cyclists to get around the area. There are not many shops and restaurants in the neighborhood, but people can pick up essentials at nearby stores like So Low Meat Market and Gold Star Foods.

Easy access to downtown Minneapolis

Folwell is about 5 miles from downtown Minneapolis, where companies like U.S. Bank are headquartered. By car, the commute takes roughly 15 minutes in normal traffic. Metro Transit buses make stops along Fremont Avenue North and Lowry Avenue North and can take riders downtown in 25-35 minutes. The area’s grid-like streets allow people to easily walk to a neighbor’s house or to a convenience store.

People come together for festivals and clean-ups

The Folwell Neighborhood Association connects the community through clean-ups and tool swaps, as well as larger events like the Día del Niño Festival. The celebration brings family-friendly activities like bounce houses, face painting and piñatas to Folwell Park. Besides hosting events, the FNA oversees community gardens, promotes youth sports in the neighborhood and keeps residents informed of issues affecting the community.

Nearby green spaces have sports fields and bike paths

The neighborhood is largely residential, but there are still several places to spend an afternoon. “Folwell is near big parks, so it’s great for people into sports,” says Ineye Bobmanuel, an agent with Keller Williams Realty Integrity Lakes. Options include:

  • Folwell Park, which has several sports fields, a skate area, a wading pool and a playground.
  • Northside Boxing Club, which offers free boxing classes to young athletes
  • Webber Park, known for its naturally filtered swimming pool
  • Victory Memorial Parkway, a popular spot for biking and jogging

Students are zoned for a highly rated district

Students are served by the highly rated Minneapolis Public School District, but Minnesota’s open enrollment policy allows them to attend any school outside of the district that has room. Private schools like the highly rated RiverTree School, around 3 miles away, give families more options, as do citywide magnet schools, which use a lottery system to determine enrollment.

There is a fitness place in the area which is very small, not open many hours and as far as I know, no one goes there. Or, at least no one I know.

The employment in this area is not the greatest because the neighborhoods are the friendliest. Usually in the suburbs are the ones that have better jobs
