Residents have art, culture and nightlife just a few steps beyond their yards
Windom Park shows that Northeast Minneapolis is far more than brick industrial buildings, breweries and art galleries. Residential streets and international cuisine welcome residents looking to live a few blocks away from the popular nightlife and art festivals the northeast is known for. The neighborhood hums with a friendly, urban-suburban energy. Craftsman bungalows with wraparound porches sit alongside trendy apartment blocks. Windom Park's heart is its namesake green space. The park transforms into a glittering wonderland for ice skating and snowball fights in winter. “But what truly makes Windom Park unique is its spirit,” says Joel Hunnington, a Realtor with Keller Williams. “There’s a strong sense of community that binds residents together.” This is evident, he says, in the summer block parties, farmers market and countless other community events.

Folksy Victorian homes mingle with the likes of brick ranch-style abodes
Not to be confused with the Southwest Minneapolis community of Windom, Windom Park neighborhood streets offer a blend of two-story Folk Victorian homes, brick ranch houses and comfortable bungalows. Early 20th-century Craftsman bungalows with warm brick and inviting porches stand shoulder-to-shoulder with stately Queen Anne Victorians adorned in gingerbread trim. Post-war ranch houses and sleek mid-century moderns add geometric flair, while contemporary builds offer glass, steel and minimalist lines. Single-family homes range from under $200,000 for fixer-uppers to upwards of $750,000 for newly built stunners.

Year-round outdoor recreation is a lap, skip and figure eight away
The neighborhood’s namesake is an 8-acre park with year-round amenities. The park was Initially named the Moulton Tract after the family who sold the land to the park board in 1887. It was officially renamed Windom Park in 1893 in honor of William Windom, a prominent Minnesota politician who served as both a U.S. Senator and Secretary of the Treasury. A playground and wading pool are welcomed additions for summer days. In the winter, the park maintains an ice rink for skating and pickup hockey or broomball games. Other parks and open spaces include Jackson Square Park, which features a playground, basketball courts, a picnic shelter and Windom South Park. The latter spot is smaller and ideally suited for a picnic or walk.

A common item found in Twin Cities wardrobes is a pair of spandex. People run and bike year round and it's perfect for both activities. The weather is typically nice, the sun never seems to stop shining and there are rarely any natural disasters or bad storms.
