Williston is a safe, tree-filled community convenient to high-ranking schools
Just south of Highway 7, Williston is a verdant neighborhood known for its classic midcentury architecture and lush surroundings. With gentle hills, lakes and ponds, this community draws homeowners with its natural beauty as much as its safety, highly-ranked public schools and plentiful shopping. These details keep demand for housing high, with families and retirees in particular seeking the area out. The CAP Crime Index rates Williston at a two out of 10, one of the safest scores possible.
Well-preserved midcentury homes that are larger than average
Williston's streets bend through woodsy surroundings, thick with shaggy pines and foliage. Lots are frequently half an acre or larger, with manicured lawns and the occasional stone fence. The houses are almost entirely well-preserved midcentury designs, though they have more modern details. "A lot of these homes were built for families with extra bedrooms," says Cassie Frick, a Realtor with Edina Realty who has served the Twin Cities area since 2002. "So they tend to be much larger than other midcentury homes." Homes often have earthy tones and feature custom exteriors that give them a rustic, cottage-style appearance. Prices for these split-level and ranch-style designs typically start in the low $400,000s and reach the mid-$700,000s depending on size and location. Though entirely residential, the neighborhood has fewer than 400 homes, making demand high. Houses in Williston spend an average of 20 days on the market, over half the national average.
Respected college prep and athletic programs at Hopkins Senior High
Students begin their education at Glen Lake Elementary School, which has a B-plus from Niche. From there, they'll attend B-rated Hopkins West Junior High School before enrolling at Hopkins Senior High School, which has an A-minus. Known for strong academics and an enthusiastic sports program, Niche recognizes Hopkins Senior High as one of Minnesota's top 20 public high schools for college prep and athletics.
Opportunities for golfing, hiking and fishing
Walking paths wind through the woods that make up Kinsel Park, including a boardwalk trail through a wetland preserve. In addition to a 9-hole course, Glen Lake Golf has practice facilities and a driving range. Lake Minnetonka, the largest body of water in the Twin Cities region, has a reputation for being a favorite spot for both locals and visitors when it comes to fishing, casual boating, and holiday celebrations.
Upscale tavern food and gourmet empanadas alongside familiar franchises
Known for its gourmet burgers and upscale pub atmosphere, Gold Nugget Tavern and Grille also features weekend brunch, holiday events and drink specials. Established in 2014, Del Sur Empanadas has a unique menu with Argentinian-style empanadas, salads and South American desserts. Excelsior Boulevard has many shopping options, including Target, Northern Tool and Lund & Byerlys.
Summer farmers markets and winter family events
Every Tuesday from June to September, Minnetonka's Summer Farmers Market offers residents the chance to purchase locally and regionally grown produce. Held every winter, Kids' Fest is a family-friendly afternoon of dog sled rides, face painting and bonfire-toasted s’mores.
Public bus service along Highway 7
The closest major thoroughfare is Highway 7 to the north, which has several Metro Transit Bus service stops. Minneapolis is 15 miles northeast, while St. Paul is 30 miles east.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
