Parklawn homes are often small, with 2 or 3-bedroom ranch-style properties, bungalows and mobile homes dominating the market. Local families can send their kids to the Modesto City Elementary School District starting in kindergarten. Local schools include Shackelford and Bret Harte elementary schools, which both earn a D+ from Niche, and Evelyn Hanshaw Middle School, which scores C-minus on Niche. After eighth grade, students move on to Modesto City High School District. Thomas Downey High School earns a B on Niche and offers career pathway classes in agriculture, fine arts, construction, child development and food science. Parklawn Neighborhood Park on Parklawn Avenue is at the center of the community and offers 4 acres of space where neighbors can have picnics or bring their kids to play. Bellenita Park on Donald Street is 4 miles away from the heart of Parklawn and has baseball and softball fields perfect for sports enthusiasts. Dryden Park Golf Course along Sunset Avenue is another large recreation area right next to Bellenita Park. From Modesto to San Francisco in a flash with BART
A variety of local highways and public transportation make Modesto easy to navigate. “Something I love about this town is it’s about an hour and a half from any recreation you might want, and people can just jet in and out,” Royer says. “We have a train service going in and out of the city, so you can go to San Francisco for a day of fun and then not have to deal with the traffic in the Bay Area.” State Route 99 borders Parklawn and eventually connects to Interstate 5, providing high-speed routes to Sacramento 78 miles away. The Stanislaus Regional Transitional Authority has many local stops along Crows Landing Road and East Hatch Road, and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has train routes to San Francisco, which is 95 miles away from Parklawn.
