Mooreville is a rural area on the edge of Tupelo, with a new focus on community
Sitting less than 10 miles from downtown Tupelo, the census-designated community of Mooreville combines city access and rural living. Residents often come to the area for its roomy housing and respected school system. Until recently, there was not much of a communal identity, but that is beginning to change. “Mooreville was just happy existing for a long time,” says Ricky Murphy, a resident and a Realtor with TM Realtors. “Now there’s a push to have a Christmas parade. There’s rec baseball and softball. The community is large enough that people are trying to get these things started. It will take time to establish them, but it is happening.” The area has a handful of local shops and restaurants, and its location near Tupelo makes getting everything else easy – while being far enough away to remain peaceful. “I come home from the city, and it’s quiet here,” Murphy says. “I can escape some of that noise.”
New Traditional and custom-built homes on large lots
The neighborhood has New Traditional homes with garages ranging from $350,000 to $500,000. Custom-built houses often go from $550,000 to $600,000. “It’s upper-end housing, but in a country setting,” Murphy says. Older traditional homes usually range from $130,000 to $260,000. Regardless of style, many houses sit on lots of an acre or more. Lots and large parcels of land are available for between $10,000 and $40,000 per acre. The neighborhood has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Short drives to Tupelo's entertainment, hospital and airport
Interstate 22 is just north of the community. Mississippi Highway 178, locally known as Old 78, runs through the center of the area. Downtown Tupelo is around 10 miles west. North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo is close to a 10-mile drive, and Tupelo Regional Airport is about 15 miles away. Roads around Boguefala Creek can be prone to flooding, as can areas just west of Road 1409.
Retail shopping at The Mall at Barnes Crossing and simple meals at local eateries
Most of Mooreville’s shops are along Old 78. Family Dollar, Dollar Tree and Dollar General sit next to each other. While the community has several convenience stores, the closest full grocery store is Dorsey Food Mart, about 5 miles east. For retail purchases, Mooreville residents tend to head west. “Tupelo is our shopping center,” Murphy says. Downtown Tupelo has several boutiques, and The Mall at Barnes Crossing, which gets around 12 million shoppers each year, is less than 15 miles away.
Tin Top Grill serves American classics for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Comer’s Restaurant, less than 5 miles east of the community, specializes in comfort food and has daily lunch specials. Just north of the area, Bishop’s BBQ Grill has barbeque sandwiches and take-home family meals.
Hit the water at Tombigbee Lake State Park and relax in Tupelo's green spaces
The residential community has little public green space. Boguefala Creek acts as the area’s eastern boundary, and Tombigbee Lake State Park, which has camping and boating opportunities, is around 6 miles away. The Mooreville Sportsplex hosts youth baseball and softball games and has a playground. Other green spaces are found in nearby Tupelo, like Veteran’s Park, which has a fitness trail, disc golf courses and a Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It is also the home of Tupelo Aquatic Center.
Get scared at Tupelo Haunted Castle and celebrate The King at the Elvis Presley Birthplace
Each October, the Tupelo Haunted Castle along Old 78, just outside of Mooresville, provides scares. Downtown Tupelo is bustling with events year-round, including at Cadence Bank Arena, which hosts concerts, sporting events and more. The Elvis Presley Birthplace is a multi-building museum dedicated to the King of Rock and Roll, including his childhood home. The center hosts live performances and other tributes.
