Quiet community with a mix of suburban planning and rural sprawl
Mount Olive mixes suburban and rural living over the Appalachian foothills less than 15 miles north of Birmingham. Many homes in Mount Olive were built in the last 20 years, but older homes tend to be on properties of several acres or more. “You’re living in the country when you’re out here, number one,” says Dana Belcher, a Real Estate Agent at RE/MAX and longtime resident of Mount Olive. “You can see the stars, hear the frogs croaking, but you’re also only 5-10 minutes from restaurants and interstates.” East of I-65, locals find modern parks in Gardendale, and heading south they’re about 15 miles to downtown Birmingham.

Lots of acreage and country views at Mount Olive homes
Residents live in a textured landscape, with rolling countryside and dense forests mingling with neat subdivisions and suburban cul-de-sacs. Most homes were built within the last 20 years, and several of them are part of ongoing residential development, which is adding subdivisions of craftsman and contemporary-style houses to the housing market. Ranch-style homes, cottages and late-20th-century split-level houses are common in the neighborhood. “You’re more likely to find homes with a lot of acreage,” says Belcher, “However, there really isn’t any other neighborhood around where you don’t have to give up convenience for living in the country.” The quiet and secluded environs are reflected in the community’s CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, significantly lower than the national average of 4 out of 10. Mount Olive’s home prices vary depending on home size and acreage. Smaller homes in more contemporary subdivisions range from $190,000 to $350,000. Alternatively, larger homes and homes with lots of acreage range from $360,000 to as much as $600,000.
