Residents can walk or bike to downtown attractions like Oxbow Public Market or the historic First Presbyterian Church.

"Most homes in Shurtleff are midcentury ranch-style, three-bedroom homes that are perfect for young families,” Cooke says. Basketball hoops are a common sight along the sidewalk-lined cul-de-sacs, and the foothills of the Vaca Mountains are visible in the distance. Homes are typically smaller than average for Napa, ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 square feet; prices range from $580,000 to $835,000, depending on a home's size. In the neighborhood’s north, buyers can also find early-2000s Mediterranean-style homes that range from 1,800 to 3,300 square feet and can cost between $950,000 and $1.7 million, depending on size.
Also in the north, one- and two-story condos are available near Camille Park. Most have two bedrooms in 900 to 1,200 square feet, and prices range from $375,000 to $595,000, depending on size. Buyers also pay monthly homeowners association fees of $430, which cover maintenance for the community pool and grounds.

Shurtleff is bordered in the west by Soscol Avenue, which leads 2 miles northwest to Downtown Napa, and 14 miles south to Interstate 80. The neighborhood's south border is Imola Avenue, which leads 2 miles west to U.S. Highway 29. The Vine bus makes several stops in the neighborhood, and dedicated bike lanes and sidewalks make the area friendly for cyclists and pedestrians. Miles of hiking at Skyline Wilderness Park
The 850-acre Skyline Wilderness Park to the southeast has over 25 miles of trails through rolling hills and oak forests. The park’s most popular hike is the nearly 3-mile trek to Lake Marie, and on clear days, the challenging, 3-mile Skyline Trail rewards hikers with views of the distant Golden Gate Bridge. Horseback riding on the trails is another popular pastime, and the park also has an 18-hole disc golf course and archery range. Within the neighborhood, the 3-acre Camille Park has a playground and a quarter-mile paved loop for burning off some energy. Dogs are allowed to run around off-leash at Shurtleff Park, which doesn't have any fences.

Shurtleff’s residents are close to a variety of restaurants and big-box retailers. The family-owned La Cheve Bakery and Brews, located in Napa’s oldest building, often has a long line for its pastries and Mexican American brunch. At the South Napa Market Place shopping center, residents can run errands at Target and The Home Depot or enjoy a meal at chain restaurants like Black Bear Diner and In-N-Out Burger. BottleRock at the Napa Valley Expo
The Napa Valley Expo, located 2 miles north, is home to some of Napa’s biggest events. Each Memorial Day Weekend, the three-day BottleRock music festival draws over 100,000 people here to watch popular musicians like Megan Thee Stallion and Ed Sheeran; the festival also has food and wine vendors from some of Napa’s well-known restaurants and wineries. Near Napa State Hospital
Napa State Hospital, a psychiatric hospital that doesn’t accept voluntary admissions, is one of the area’s largest employers. The large campus is just south of Imola Avenue, and residents will often drive by its grassy fields and chain-link fences on their way into the neighborhood.
While Shurtleff has a low risk of wildfires, its residents might experience smoke from nearby fires. The last major wildfires in the area were the Glass Fire and LNU Lightning Complex in 2020, which burned areas to the north.
