Hillsboro Village: shopping for locals and tourists alike
According to McGuire, Hillsboro Village is popular with both out-of-staters and locals. "The village is vital to the Belmont personality, it's really a hub. It's used by all adjacent neighborhoods, and it's not just a tourism site, the village serves the people who actually live around there," she says. The Pancake Pantry has been delivering hot breakfasts to customers at rustic wooden tables since 1961, back when Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline were headlining at the Grand Ole Opry. Dose Coffee specializes in fresh roasts and baked goods off of Interstate 440, and there’s also Fido, a pet shop-turned-quirky cafe on 21st Avenue. Nearby, find sports bars, boutique clothing stores like Altar’d State, colorful murals that have become popular photo ops and a Kroger for grocery needs. Folks can also drive down Hillsboro Pike to pick up ingredients at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, both of which are located just a few steps away from the Blue Bird Cafe. The tiny venue has become a popular tourist attraction thanks to the ABC show “Nashville,” and wait times are notoriously long.Vintage homes and upscale condominium living
As McGuire points out, “The historic overlay is so important to this area, and zoning protects the old, vintage homes.” In Belmont-HIllsboro, prospective buyers will find a mix of 1930s architecture and upscale condominiums. There are Cape Cod variants with nook windows, Craftsman homes with wide, covered porches and Tudor-inspired properties with steep gabled roofs. Prices for single-family homes hover between $750,000 for modest cottages and can reach upwards of $2 million for large, historic homes with modern finishes. Comparatively, condominium and townhome units typically start in the mid $400,000s and rarely exceed $650,000. Sidewalks line both sides of the streets, contributing to walkability, and decades-old trees provide an escape from Tennessee heat.Historic theaters and Antebellum mansion museums
In 1925, the Belcourt Theatre opened as a silent movie venue. Today, it screens independent and classic films on Belcourt Avenue, and those with memberships receive discounted tickets and concessions. Locals can also visit the restored Belmont Mansion, a 19th-century Italianate summer home designed for the wealthy Acklen family; visitors will learn about Nashville’s ties to slavery, immigrant labor during the Reconstruction period and the founding of Belmont University. Self-guided tours cost $18, and specialized historian-led visits are often priced higher. Nearby, find the Gallery of Iconic Guitars, home to a mandocello and L-5 guitar signed by Lloyd Loar. The Nashville Opera hosts a regular calendar of performances just outside the neighborhood, and there are also live shows at the Fisher Center; it’s a neighborhood where musical roots run deep, and studios along Music Row have produced the likes of Taylor Swift and Bob Dylan. "All that history, I think it's really just because they care about preserving their neighborhood. It's pride. They're proud of where they live,” says McGuire, speaking to the tight-knit nature of Belmont-Hillsboro.Climbable sculptures, family picnics and “The Athens of the South”
Sometimes called “Dragon Park” due to the climbable dragon sculpture made from thousands of mosaic tiles, Fannie Mae Dees Park also has a large playground, covered picnic areas and tennis courts. Of course, there’s also Centennial Park. It’s famously the site of a to-scale version of the Parthenon built for the Tennessee Centennial Exposition in the late 1800s. Runners utilize the 1-mile-long trail system, and the sunken gardens host weddings and casual family lunches throughout the year. Visitors to the 130-plus acre park will also find the Centennial Arts Center and a bandshell where A-listers like Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Buffett have played. In April, stop by the food trucks at the VIVA Spring Festival, head to Tuesday evening yoga during the warmer months and listen to local bands Friday nights throughout May and June, part of a series called “Musicians Corner.” Pick up fresh produce in Sevier Park, home to the 12 South Farmers Market starting in May.Academies at Hillsboro High School
Students in Belmont-Hillsboro are incorporated into the Metro Nashville public schools system and can attend Eakin Elementary, which earned a B-plus on the educational review site, Niche, before moving on to West End Middle and Hillsboro High, which earned a B-minus and B, respectively. Ninth graders start off in the Hillsboro High Freshman Academy before choosing between the Academy of Global Health & Science, the US Community Credit Union Academy of International Business & Communications and the Academy of International Baccalaureate. Some students opt for dual enrollment courses at Nashville State Community College, and others take Industry Credential Courses. Also within the neighborhood, Belmont University has produced an alumni network that includes country stars like Lee Ann Womack and Brad Paisley.WeGo Public Transit into Downtown Nashville

Bus 17 runs up 12th. There’s also the WeGo Star, a commuter rail system that travels between Lebanon and Nashville, and Nashville International Airport is about 9 miles away via Interstates 440 and 40. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, known for its neonatal intensive care unit, is just north of Fannie Mae Dees Park, and other nearby medical facilities include Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West, TriStar Centennial Medical Center and Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown.
