Revitalized community with historic roots
Since the early 2000s, Five Points has been experiencing a boom in growth. As an East Nashville neighborhood, the streets are full of trendy eateries, niche shopping boutiques and vibrant hand-painted murals. It's common to see joggers greeting the morning sun and dog walkers taking their afternoon strolls. Locals and visitors also choose Five Points when the sun goes down—rather than downtown Nashville just 2 miles west—for a night of cocktails and karaoke. "It’s a classic re-energized urban neighborhood, where a historic overlay helps to preserve homes and makes it hard to build. So there’s always a strong demand to live here,” says John Brackeen, a Realtor at RE/MAX Choice Properties with more than 20 years of experience in the area.
Sunrise to sunset on Woodland Street
As the sun sets on Woodland Street, famously lined with bars and restaurants, Five Points comes to life. “It’d be a disservice not to mention Margot’s, as it was the founding restaurant of the revitalization of Five Points,” says Brackeen. “The chef, Margot McCormack had a huge influence on the East Nashville food scene.” Locals can get breakfast at Yeast Nashville, grab a New York slice for lunch at Five Points Pizza and enjoy seafood for dinner at Boston Commons. Nearby, Lockeland Table’s southern menu was featured on the Food Network. The party starts at Up-Down Bar and the Lipstick Lounge, a gay bar with karaoke and trivia. A more low-key night out might feature dinner at Edley’s Bar-B-Que before stopping at Honeytree Meadery for some wine or Attaboy for a specialized cocktail. Locals can pick up ingredients for the week at The Turnip Truck or head north for groceries and essentials at Aldi.

High-value Craftsmans and townhomes
A walk down the sidewalk in the residential areas will show a colorful assortment of Craftsman homes and bungalows with low-pitched triangular roofs, many with wide front porches. “The area is commercial in origin, but budding into a residential haven,” Brackeen says. Single-family houses can range from 850 to 2,000 square feet in size and around $550,000 to $850,000 in price. On the east side of town, redesigned or updated homes can reach upwards of 7,500 square feet and cost anywhere from $950,000 to about $3.5 million. There are also 1,000- to 1,600-square-foot condos and townhome options available for $350,000 to $650,000.

Sharing art through music and festivals
Every August since 2004, local fruit and vegetable vendors and travelers from all over the state come together for the Tomato Art Fest held along Woodland Street. There are also a few indoor live music venues in Five Points, including The Basement and The 5 Spot. “It’s a very artsy-oriented area, where many songwriters, producers and people who work in the industry live and play,” adds Brackeen.

A-graded magnet and STEM schools
Students living in Five Points are part of Metro Nashville Public Schools, one of the largest districts in the state. Younger learners can begin with a 13-1 student-teacher ratio at Warner Elementary School, a magnet school with a C-minus Niche grade. They can then progress to the No. 2 best public middle school in Davison County, Meigs Magnet Middle School, which Niche grades an A-minus and GreatSchools reports 10 out of 10 test scores. High schoolers can attend either East Nashville Magnet High School, graded a C-minus from Niche, or Stratford STEM Magnet School, which is graded a C.
East Park fields and Shelby Park trails
To the west, East Park has a playground, baseball diamonds and a community center with an indoor pool and fitness center. The park also hosts community events, equipped with food trucks and live music. “When people want to jog or bike—and feel safe doing so—they go to Shelby Park. There are 1,000 acres of parkland, and the trails are part of the greenway system, connecting to the pedestrian bridge and other parks,” says Brackeen. The park also offers athletic fields, a dog park, a boat ramp and is attached to Cornelia Fort Airpark, which puts on the Pickin’ Party live music festival all summer.
Easy commute via Interstate 24
Both interstate 24 and U.S. Route 31 are just a mile away, making it easy to commute and travel. Several WeGo Transit bus stops are peppered along Main Street and Shelby Ave, and the Riverfront train station is 2 miles west across the Cumberland River.
