Harbour Town
Ranch-styles, Colonial duplexes, modern Traditional and some lake views
Like in much of Nashville, the neighborhood blocks here feature few sidewalks, but road markings accommodate cyclists and even strollers and dog walkers. Many houses face wide front yards or sit atop raised lots, and the prevalent styles depend on the subdivision. Ranch-style houses, split-levels and Colonial Revival style duplexes are common in the Castlegate area. More ranch-style houses and split-levels exist on the western end of the Harbour Town area, while the eastern side has more modern Traditional style houses with smaller yards. There are also a few new contemporary houses in the community. While Harbour Town isn’t on the shores, some in the area are close enough to see Percy Priest lake from their own backyards. Depending on factors like size, price points for many of these houses across this area run between $350,000 and $450,000. Even larger Traditionals and new contemporaries can run close to $500,000. Modern Traditional style townhouses can also run between $280,000 and $330,000.Near the shores of Middle Tennessee outdoor jewel
One of the top outdoors destinations in Middle Tennessee, Percy Priest Lake boasts multiple marinas, campgrounds and miles of trails for hikers who want to explore the dense forest surrounding the shores. Those who choose to get on the water range from kayakers and paddle boarders to those relaxing on sail boats and pontoons. Anglers can catch a variety of fish, including different types of bass, crappies and catfish. Several distinct sites also surround the lake. Many visitors, for instance, enjoy stopping by Long Hunter State Park, a 2,600-acre area with its own camping sites and over 20 miles of hiking trails. One spot here is the Couchville Lake Arboretum Trail, which goes around the 110-acre lake of the same name. Hikers along this path can spot wildlife that includes wild turkey and other birds like great blue herons, ospreys and — albeit rarely — a bald eagle. Within the Harbour Town area itself, the Smith Springs Community Center offers a variety of facilities like a fitness center, outdoor playground and indoor swimming pool.Community store in Comptons Foodland and Betty Lou’s pub food and live shows
Residents here have a community grocery store in the Comptons Foodland just off Smith Springs Road. Neighboring Betty Lou’s Restaurant & Lounge is popular for its pub fare, while regulars also enjoy hanging out there for live music. More dining and shopping, including multicultural options, exist along Murfreesboro Pike. They include grocery stores like the Saint George Market and the Eko African & Caribbean Market and Restaurant. The Saint George Market accommodates some of its customers with aisle signs that also list store items in Arabic. Restaurants here include the Good Times Street Food Taqueria, which serves Mexican with a bit of an American twist. In addition to options like soft corn tortilla tacos, patrons there can chow down on hamburgers and fries served with a jalapeno pepper. The nearby Fat Boys BBQ might run out of a humble shack, but is often busy dishing out plates of ribs with sides of macaroni and cheese and pancakes. Murfreesboro Pike’s crossing with Nashboro Boulevard is dense with chain brands, including more grocery shopping options in ALDI and Kroger.Antioch High’s diversity and science programs
Younger students in Harbour Town can attend Lakeview Elementary School, which received a C grade from ratings site Niche. They can then go on to either Apollo or John F. Kennedy middle schools, which respectively received grades of C-minus and C from Niche. Then, they can finish at Antioch High School, which received a C grade from Niche. The high school has several distinct qualities, ranging from a multilingual student body to specialized focuses on science and technology. The school most recently struck a partnership allowing its students to take a dual enrollment course in basic computer science from Stanford University. The high school also houses several programs under the district’s Academies of Nashville, a touted college and career prep model. Students enrolled in one of Antioch High’s academies can receive an introduction in auto maintenance and repair.Educational tours and campout events around Percy Priest Lake
A variety of activities occur around the lake throughout the year. For example, the nonprofit Friends of Long Hunter State Park puts on free and open activities like a campout and cookout in early May. The park also hosts educational programs covering several different topics. In one of them, also free of cost, school children can learn about the jobs of Tennessee State Park Rangers.Murfreesboro Pike commute
Murfreesboro Pike south of the neighborhood runs toward the city’s downtown, which is 12 miles from the Harbour Town area. Smith Springs Road north of the community connects to the Murfreesboro Pike to provide a route to the Nashville International Airport 6 miles to the west. Murfreesboro Pike also has a few WeGo Public Transit bus stops. In addition to providing a route to outlying communities like Mt. Juliet, Hobson Pike to the east provides a scenic crossing over Percy Priest Lake. For medical needs, there’s the TriStar Summit Medical Center about 8 miles north of the neighborhood.
