The neighborhood that made the Music City

Elvis. Dolly Parton. Taylor Swift. From the old to the new school, these are only a few of the legends and superstars who have graced Music Row and left their marks on the institutions that have called this iconic part of Nashville home. Nashville is widely called the Music City, and it’s this very neighborhood that has contributed the most to that nickname. While Music Row is often associated with recording studios — and country music artists in particular — it’s been a home for several institutions in the music industry. Music Square East to the north is most prominently occupied by one of Broadcast Music Inc.’ s national offices. Across the street to the west, Owen Bradley is immortalized in his own park, while the bronze “Musica” art installment in the nearby roundabout catches the eyes of drivers turning into Buddy Killen Circle. Although the neighborhood boasts some modern multistory buildings, it still has notable historic or older properties, including classic bungalows and Four Square houses that have been converted into spaces for businesses and organizations. While the historic and present music industry has been the source of much tourism over the years, they have equally appealed to at least a few who have decided to settle in or close to this place. “It’s just an iconic part of the Nashville where a lot of song writers have and still write hit songs. There’s a lot of history there,” says Lee Pfund, managing broker for the PARKS real estate office in the nearby Hillsboro Village. “Today it really draws a lot of tourists. You can walk by the Shane McAnally office, which is smack dab right there. You have a lot of people who come by and who want to see where the songs were produced and made.”

Eclectic mix of dining along Broadway

Beginning on 21st Avenue South, which turns into Broadway, residents can on foot stop by a few of many dining spots located along the thoroughfare. The establishments include chain brands and a number of establishments occupy the first floor of multi-story apartment buildings. The restaurants include the San Antonio Taco Company and Nada, which both serve Mexican fare but under different settings. Nada is a more upscale restaurant and bar on the ground floor of a modern multistory building, while the San Antonio Taco Company operates in a cozier home-style venue with an outdoor patio. While many certainly enjoy the Mexican fare at San Antonio Taco Company, the establishment is particularly known for bringing out bottled beers in ice buckets. The Row Kitchen & Pub, on Lyle Ave just off Broadway, is popular spot for Southern classics and regionally sourced draft beers. A Whole Foods exists on Broadway just north of Music Row.

Price points for these condos can go from around $370,000 for a one-bedroom unit to about $650,000 a two-bedroom unit with greater square footage. Neighboring Rose Park multisport facility

While there are plenty of sights to see here, Music Row residents are close to several recreational spots. There’s Tony Rose Park right along the neighborhood’s eastern bounds. The park, which has a water fountain, is a popular spot for nearby dog owners and features a playground for children. The biggest sports site near this area is Rose Park, a 24-acre multi-sports facility located just east of the neighborhood. The site is a destination for young athletes as it boasts amenities like synthetic turf baseball and soccer fields, as well as basketball courts. Fans of Belmont University’s men and women soccer teams can catch their home games at the park. And if nothing else, casual strolls through this bustling neighborhood might involve passing by one of many artistic markers like the Heartbreak Hotel and Roy Orbison guitars and a giant microphone.

The community is okay here. Many keep to themselves, but always give a smile when seeing others in the hallways of the apartment building or on the sidewalk.
