Small town living in the forests of New Hampshire

With a population of just over 6,000 people, the small, rural town of New Boston is within reach of larger New Hampshire cities. Here, residents can find spacious Colonial Revival and Cape Cod-style houses that orbit a small town center. Home to parks and several dining and shopping options, the town center allows residents the opportunity to stay close by. Still, both Milford and Manchester are less than a 30-minute drive away, making urban amenities and events another possibility. “It’s very tight knit, very small. We’re definitely seeing a lot of growth,” says Jenn Brezniak, Deputy Town Clerk of New Boston. “While it’s not the tiniest town in NH, it feels like it is. The small-town feel is the most attractive thing.”

Family-owned patio dining

New Boston's dining options include Northeast Café, which is well known for its brisket breakfast sandwiches and omelets. Molly’s Tavern and Restaurant is another family-owned spot located inside a renovated farmhouse. Here, residents can enjoy the casual, friendly environment and classic American fare while dining inside or on the patio. Dodge’s Ice Cream Stand is a go-to spot for a sweet treat during the summer and a place to shop for homegrown veggies and plants. Several tractors along the road act as impromptu signage for the stand. Residents looking to stock their kitchens at home can grab ingredients from Dodge's Country Store or the New Boston Farmers Market every Saturday morning from June to October. For big box stores, like Walmart, residents can head 16 miles to the west in the heart of Manchester.

New Boston's biggest annual event takes place in the summer. “We do a really big Fourth of July. We’ve been doing it since the beginning of the town,” says Brezniak. “We have fireworks. We have parades. There’s a lot of themed floats. We have a lot of vintage cars.” Residents are also just a short drive from the Hillsborough County Agricultural Fair, which takes place at the beginning of September each year. Festival guests can stop by food booths, enjoy carnival rides and visit with the animals.
