A residential haven with easy commutes

New Carrollton is a haven for first-time home buyers looking to get more for their dollar with an 11 mile commute to Washington, D.C., or Annapolis. You wouldn’t know you’re so close to multiple cities in this suburban setting, but the New Carrollton Metro Station, just a couple miles from most homes, makes this an easy commute.

Buying into New Carrollton

The community is covered with residential streets and cul-de-sacs. Along these streets, you’ll see tree-lined sidewalks running in front of many small single-family homes like ranch-styles and split-levels accompanied by midsize front and back yards. “The prices here are very inviting,” says Natalie Perez, a Realtor with 4 years of experience in the area, “You won’t find a single-family home with a yard for these prices closer to D.C.” The median home price is $375,000. On the higher end, you can find a 2,000-square-foot ranch-style or split-level for about $500,000. For around $400,000, you can get a 1,000-square-foot rambler. The less expensive options in the area are mainly older 1-to 2-bedroom condos for about $150,000. “You don’t get as much green space with a condo,” says Perez, “but they’re gaining popularity because they’re within a mile of the metro station.”
