So close to so much
Sitting on the deck at the Fair Haven Oyster Company and looking out at the view of the Quinnipiac River below, it’s easy to forget that the peninsular neighborhood of Fair Haven is bordered by Interstate 91 and sits less than 2 miles east of downtown New Haven. The neighborhood pairs that convenient location with some of the most affordable real estate in the area, as well as a number of public parks and a range of great restaurants. “Fair Haven is close to so much,” says Realtor Gigi Taylor. “There are some great restaurants there, and it’s close to New Haven for shopping and all the cultural attractions there.” And because Fair Haven is on the Great Neck Peninsula, those who love being near the water feel right at home, with the Quinnipiac River bordering the neighborhood on the east, the Mill River on the west and New Haven Harbor to the south.

Water, water everywhere
With the Quinnipiac River snaking around Fair Haven, there are plenty of waterfront areas. Dover Beach on the neighborhood’s northeastern corner is a park that hugs the riverbank, offering a playground, a splash pad and plenty of benches for taking in the view. Local anglers often catch bluefish and striped bass from the bank, as this part of the river is close enough to New Haven Harbor to have a mixture of salt and fresh water. For those with their own boats, the Front Street Boat Ramp is situated on the park’s southern edge, so boaters can be on their way to Long Island Sound in no time. Across town in the southwestern corner of Fair Haven is Criscuolo Park, which sits on the banks of the Mill River. Here, visitors will find basketball courts, a playground, a softball field and plenty of open space, as well as a monument to the Connecticut 29th Regiment, recognizing the sacrifices of 900 Black soldiers who fought on behalf of the Union during the Civil War.

Some of the lowest-priced real estate in the state
The median home price in Fair Haven is $195,000, and buyers can expect to pay an average of $153 per square foot. Options include both condominiums and detached single-family homes. Both of those price points are significantly less than the New Haven region and the state of Connecticut as a whole, making Fair Haven the most affordable neighborhood in the New Haven area and one of the most affordable in the entire state. That affordability is a key draw, according to Coldwell Banker broker Lauren Freedman: “The prices are comparatively inexpensive in Fair Haven,” she says. “And parts of the neighborhood are really up and coming.” A two-bedroom/two-bathroom condominium can sell for just over $100,000, with prices going up to $338,000 for a three-bedroom/three-bathroom riverfront condominium. A three-bedroom/one-bathroom single-family colonial home can sell for $113,000, and a six-bedroom/two-bathroom colonial in need of some upgrades can sell for $275,000.

The people in my area are perhaps not the fitness type of people there are a few people who are fit but its because they don't associate with the other people in the town and keep to themselves and exercise all the time to keep themselves busy.
