Begin Park has suburban living close to the city and family services

Just south of Meadow Lake Park and east of Victory Park, Begin Park is a small suburban corner of northern New Hope . Though the area is dominated by industrial sectors and apartment buildings, many of its single-family homes are newer contemporary designs compared to neighboring communities like Elm Grove and Little Acre Park . Locals appreciate the neighborhood's proximity to senior care facilities and a special needs school, plus the easy commute to the heart of Minneapolis , about 20 minutes away.

Condos and snout houses dominate the neighborhood

Begin Park has fewer than 200 houses, most arranged on neat, rectangular lots around a quarter-acre in size. Midcentury homes aren’t uncommon, but the lion’s share of single-family dwellings are contemporary snout houses and condos. Newer construction runs from about $390,000 to $600,000, depending on amenities. Condos start around $110,000s for the smallest models and peak in the $220,000s. The median sale price for a single-family home in Begin Park is about $420,000, comparable to the Hennepin County median of $410,000.

An education center right in the neighborhood

Students can begin at Meadow Lake Elementary School before heading to Robbinsdale Middle School, both of which receive a C grade from Niche. Older students can attend Cooper High School, which has a B-minus. The high school’s debate team has participated in the National Debate and Speech Tournament 17 times since 2001. The Intermediate District 287 North Education Center is in the neighborhood, serving kindergarten through 12th-grade students with autism, emotional disorders and cognitive disabilities. Minnesota’s public schools offer open enrollment, allowing qualifying students to attend schools outside their assigned district.

Recreation includes playgrounds, pools and a golf course

Begin Park’s 5-acre recreational area is a hub for residents. The green space includes several athletic courts and fields, playground equipment and grills for picnics and other casual events. Five minutes away, the New Hope Aquatic Park has water slides, zero-depth entry points and a vortex pool. The facility offers swimming lessons for all ages, water aerobics classes and rentable cabanas. The New Hope Ice Arena has two indoor skating rinks with schedules for open skating, hockey games and skating lessons. The New Hope Village Golf Course is a public nine-hole course with a clubhouse and pro shop.

Local dining includes casual seafood and Chicago-style pizza

Locals head a mile east to the Crystal Shopping Center in Becker for retail, chain restaurants and other services. Groceries are available at the Aldi in nearby North Lions Park . Captain Hook Fish and Chicken offers casual seafood with a family restaurant ambiance. Opened in 1991, Frankie’s serves Chicago-style pizza, burgers, pastas and a full beer and wine list.

Metro Transit and nearby roads support daily commuting

Begin Park is about 15 miles from Minneapolis, a 20-minute car ride for commuters. Pedestrians can take advantage of Metro Transit’s bus system, which stretches all over the region and has several stops along 54th Avenue. In addition to respiratory and cardiac care, North Ridge Health and Rehab is also the site of The Residence, an assisted living community.
