Just 10 miles from downtown Cincinnati, Dry Run is a quiet neighborhood in the Newtown Village. “Being in a Village can have its advantages for sure,” says Tina Mattix of Coldwell Banker Realty, who has 20 years of experience in the area. “You have your own police department and fire department, and you really feel that the tax dollars stay in the neighborhood.” Dry Run is one of the larger neighborhoods in the area and the houses are older, large builds. The area has strong schools, and while there are a few local restaurants that are staples of the community, there are also a lot of national chains in Dry Run. Convenient shopping and prevalent retail outlets add to the suburban feeling the neighborhood provides.
Single-family homes in Dry Run have a median price point of $535,000, and there are a variety of styles. The neighborhood features Greek Revival homes, grand Colonial builds and split-level housing. Houses sit on quiet, winding roads that only see residential traffic. The large oak trees in the neighborhood provide shade and also a sense of being out in the countryside. Homes feature private driveways for parking and large yards for those who want to try their hand at gardening. Paved sidewalks make it easy for pet owners to walk their dogs.
Dry Run children head to the Forest Hill Local School District, beginning at Wilson Elementary. “Families have moved just to be in this district,” says Mattix. Wilson earned an A grade from Niche and was rated as the No. 29 school for elementary school teachers in Ohio. Next is Nagel Middle School, which also earned an A grade and was named the 12th-best middle school in Cincinnati, and Turpin High School, which was named the seventh-best high school in Cincinnati. Turpin High earned an A grade and was noted as having a top STEM program.
The M.E. Lyons YMCA serves as a recreation center for the community. Locals can visit the YMCA and utilize the indoor pool or the full fitness center year-round. For some outdoor fun, Johnson Hills Park has 140 acres of green space. Hikers and bikers can head to the 3.5-mile trail, while others can play a round of disc golf on the 18-hole course. Mount Carmel Park is home to a playground area for children and tables for an afternoon picnic.
Hungry locals can head to Mio’s Pizzeria for a night out. Mio’s is a local chain with locations throughout Cincinnati, and it has calzones, pizzas, and other Italian favorites, as well as an extensive craft beer list. Clough Crossings American Bistro was once an old schoolhouse, but today serves as a casual setting for a nice dining experience. The bistro has classic American fare and a large list of wines and cocktails. There are also plenty of nationally recognized chain restaurants on the south side of the neighborhood off Interstate 275.
Interstate 275 is also a haven for grocery shoppers. Aldi, Kroger and Target all have locations off the major highway in Dry Run. For those who want a more in-depth shopping experience, Eastgate Mall is just two miles away. Eastgate has all the traditional stores as well as boutique shops and a movie theater showing the newest blockbuster films.
The Go Metro bus system serves Dry Run and has routes all through Cincinnati. The Metro has stops along Clough Pike and 8 Mile Road. Dry Run is near Interstate 275 in nearly every direction, so driving to nearby areas is an easy task.
