Convenience, charm, and an easy commute
Located just over 5 miles from Norfolk’s bustling downtown, Azalea Acres offers its residents a mix of urban access, convenience, and small-town charm. Its name stems not only from the blooming azaleas that grace the area during the spring, but also because Norfolk’s renowned Botanical Gardens sit only 2 miles away. With a high population of active military personnel, the area is a good fit for those who need to commute — with Norfolk Naval Station and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek just 6 miles away. “That area is especially great for access,” says Pamela Hunt, Realtor with Seaside Realty, and longtime resident of the area. “The Botanical Gardens are right there, and lots of people stationed in the military tend to move here for the convenience.
Established styles with sizeable front and back yards
Homes in Azalea Acres reflect an old-school style and cozy charm, with many of them built in the 1950s and 1960s. As such, its common to see established styles like ranch style and split levels — though modern contemporary homes from the past 20 years can also be found. The area’s roomier nature allows for larger lots with spacious front and back yards, with homes often featuring attached garages and welcoming front porches too. “It’s a highly sought-after area,” says Melissa Gates, Realtor with The Bryant Group Real Estate. “The classic look of the houses makes it feel really homey, and the bigger lots allow for people to do their own gardening.” Prices typically range from $170,000 to $365,000, though newer homes and homes on the Lake Whitehurst waterfront can go for upwards of $400,000. “Another reason the area is popular is because of the pricing,” says Hunt. “The prices in Azalea Acres are much more affordable compared to other parts of Norfolk and Hampton Roads.”
