Meadowbrook Forest
Suburban Neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia
Norfolk City County 23518
Suburb with distinct character
The neighborhood has a distinct character thanks to its variety of home styles and classic municipal decor. “The streets are lined with gas lamps making a walk at night very picturesque,” says Strange. Cottage-style homes, ranches and colonials make up most of the area's inventory. Down Hunter’s Trail, you’ll find larger, contemporary lakeside homes encompassed by woods, creating a sense of seclusion. Homes in the neighborhood typically range from $300,000 to $500,000.Norfolk Botanical Garden, Oceanview
While there aren’t any parks directly in the neighborhood, there are close options for getting outdoors. The Norfolk Botanical Garden is nearby with 7 miles of trails through seasonal floral arrangements. There’s also a community garden on Johnstons Road, run by the nearby Larrymore Lawns Association. For indoor recreation, there’s an AMF bowling alley just north on East Little Creek Road. Two miles north is Oceanview, offering beach access and a large fishing pier.Free meals program at Norfolk schools
Kids may start at Larrymore Elementary, which gets a C-plus from Niche, before going to Azalea Gardens Middle with a C. Students may then attend Lake Taylor High, which also has a C. The school district recently expanded its breakfast and lunch programs to include free meals each school day for all enrolled students.Events hosted by the Lake Whitehurst West Civic League
The Lake Whitehurst West Civic League, the second-largest league in Norfolk, serves several communities, including Meadowbrook Forest. Join the league and learn about their neighborhood events, such as their annual yard sale in May. The league also hosts a summer block party and a holiday social. “Our civic league is sort of an extension of the government, and we are always looking out for each other,” says Strange.Easy access to Naval Station Norfolk
A few shops and restaurants are within walking distance, but residents will still want a car to access to rest of Norfolk’s amenities. Interstate 64 is nearby and provides an easy commute to Naval Station Norfolk and the rest of Hampton Roads. There are several bus stops with daily service along N Military Highway. Norfolk International Airport, one of the largest in the region, is just 2 miles east.Markets, restaurants and boutiques
There is a Lidl and Food Lion on North Military Highway, as well as nearby local favorite restaurants. Franco’s is an eatery on Norview Avenue with Italian comfort food. The Azalea Inn & Time Out Sports Bar is a family-owned restaurant offering authentic Greek cuisine, an arcade and classic cocktails. Residents can also head to Bel Air Pancake House for breakfast classics. The Norfolk Premium Outlets are 2 miles east and offer boutiques like Nike, Coach and Steve Madden.
