Suburbia anchored by action-packed park

A namesake park packed with an aquatic center and golf course plays backdrop to suburbia in Westwood Park. This pocket of Norman offers residents a cozy bedroom community conveniently positioned near Interstate 35 and is within 3.5 miles of the city’s downtown district and the University of Oklahoma. Highly rated schools within walking distance add to the neighborhood's appeal.

20th-century homes with spacious yards

The mid- to late 20th-century homes in Westwood Park maintain a sense of uniformity, with brick ranch homes and split levels dominating the area. Homeowners in this quiet suburb live comfortably, with front and backyard space shaded by mature trees. Lots typically range from a quarter- to a half-acre, and residents take pride in maintaining their lawns. On Westwood Park’s northern end, some houses back up to the golf course, providing serene views of grassy fairways from back patios and porches. Sidewalks are few and far between, but the roadways are wide enough that locals will walk along the edges. Many homes also feature driveways and garages, though there is enough room for on-street parking. Prices for a three-bedroom home start at around $270,000 and peak at $335,000 for a renovated property. A four-bedroom ranch home with views of Westwood Park Golf Course can reach more than $600,000.

Namesake park is a focal point for community connection

The residential streets surround the neighborhood’s namesake and centerpiece, Westwood Park. From May through October, the highlight of the park is the family aquatic center. Along with a six-lane lap pool, there are shaded water benches where parents can relax as the kids run around the wet deck with a playscape and dumping bucket. Several slides of varying heights twist and turn into the pool below. For people who want to get away from the action, there’s a 500-foot-long lazy river weaving through the center. Situated next to the aquatic center are lighted tennis courts and a playground. Another outdoor staple in the community is the Westwood Park Golf Course. After playing a round of 18, residents can relax or grab a bite to eat at The Turn Grill inside the clubhouse.

Small shopping centers sit near Westwood Park

Westwood Park’s central location next to Interstate 35 gives residents access to ample shopping and dining. Small strip malls surround the freeway and house grocery stores like Walmart and Costco. Locals can also head to Target for more everyday essentials. A mix of local and chain eateries line Main Street on Westwood Park’s southern end. The smell of freshly baked goods wafts through the air at La Baguette. City Bites gives residents another fast-casual option nearby. Like many college towns, Norman’s downtown is centered around the University of Oklahoma campus. The walkable district just 2.5 miles away features an eclectic mix of international cuisine, from Inkfire Ramen Tapas & Bar to Das Boot Camp and Sergio’s Italian Bistro. Downtown gets much more crowded during football season when thousands of fans descend on Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to cheer on the Sooners.

Avoid major highways to reach downtown Norman

Westwood Park residents can avoid the hassle of driving along major highways to reach downtown Norman and the University of Oklahoma. Instead, they’ll take Acres Street and West Robinson Street. Those who use public transportation can catch one of the EMBARK transit system buses on 24th Avenue Northwest, connecting them to Norman Regional Hospital, 2.5 miles east of the neighborhood. For additional big-city amenities, people make the roughly 19-mile drive north to Oklahoma City, which is home to Will Rogers World Airport.
