Wynstone is one of the Village of North Barrington’s prestigious gated communities, featuring 750 acres of rolling hills and stately properties centered around a full golf course and country club. “When homebuyers consider North Barrington, many seek the security of a gated community,” says Realtor Melanie Parsons with Keller Williams Success Realty. “A country club lifestyle and estate living with ample land.” Wynstone exemplifies this ideal, with residents making their way to the clubhouse in their golf carts and the security team managing the community’s gates 24/7. Shopping and dining are just a few miles away in Lake Zurich, but at the end of the day, residents come home to their quiet and peaceful community.
Houses in Wynstone feel like small estates, featuring Colonial and French elements and sitting on professionally landscaped properties. “In North Barrington, you can get more land and bigger lots,” says broker Matt Hernacki with Misterhomes Real Estate. “Definitely more spread out than in-town Barrington.” Properties in Wynstone specifically are often over an acre, with the golf course running throughout the community for easy access to the green. The community is broken into different subsections, with each area offering different amenities and benefits. Situated by the clubhouse, The Grove features streets shaded by oaks and views of the golf course, while homes in The Falls are nestled around Lake Sheree and its ponds interconnected by waterfalls. Homes in Wynstone typically list between $900,000 and $1.4 million, with properties on the lower end offering fewer acres.
The Club at Wynstone is the gem of the community, where golfers can practice their swing along the green and kids can enroll in swim lessons or the team at the pool. The golf course itself is 240 acres of the community’s space, so golf is an important part of the lifestyle throughout Wynstone. The clubhouse also offers tennis and pickleball facilities, along with social opportunities hosted by the neighborhood association. While Wynstone provides everything residents could need within in gates, Lake Zurich’s Paulus Park Beach offers a lakeside excursion just a few miles from the community. Lifeguards watch over swimmers as they cool off in the water, but there’s also a splash ground for the kids.
“In Wynstone, events would be driven by the association, but that’s not as public. It’s more local to them,” Hernacki says. “But North Barrington has garden walks, and they have a music series over the summer.” As part of North Barrington, Wynstone residents can participate in the annual Village Garden Walk, where North Barrington’s gated communities and neighborhoods show off their best gardens and residents can walk through and admire the landscaping and design. Every second Saturday of the summer, Music in the Park takes place at Eton Park in the Village’s town center, featuring local bands. Over in Lake Zurich, Paulus Park hosts the Lake Zurich Farmers Market every Friday from June to September, offering produce, hot food and live music.
Wynstone residents can stop by the clubhouse to eat at one of their dining rooms. The Terrace Grill is the community’s more casual setting, overlooking the golf course. People can sit indoors, but the umbrellas and heaters on the patio make it enjoyable throughout the year. When not dining at the clubhouse, residents can head over to Lake Zurich over North Barrington itself. “Lake Zurich is for day-to-day shopping and chain restaurants,” Hernacki says. “But you wouldn’t find one of those in North Barrington.” Beelow’s Steakhouse and Bar’s menu features steak and seafood, with their specialty New York Strip grilled in a chimichurri sauce. All within 3.5 miles and around Lake Zurich, residents can stop in Trader Joe’s, Jewel-Osco and Costco for their grocery runs.
Students living in Wynstone can attend Barrington’s schools, starting at North Barrington Elementary School and continuing to Barrington Middle School’s Station Campus. Niche awards both schools A rankings. Barrington High School earns an A-plus from Niche and is listed as the 15th-best public high school in Illinois by the organization. Here, students can enroll in Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses for subjects like horticulture and culinary arts.
When arriving at and departing from Wynstone, residents will take Wynstone Drive, which is the community’s only entrance. From there, Rand Road to the east connects people with Lake Zurich and is lined with shopping centers and grocery stores. Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is also accessible via this thoroughfare. Neither Wynstone nor North Barrington has a Metrorail station, and I-90 is 15 miles to the south, but this adds to the area’s more private and secluded feel that residents love. For those commuting to downtown Chicago, the city is about 41 miles from Wynstone. Chicago O’Hare International Airport is just over 27.5 miles away.
