Located about 7 miles west of downtown Atlanta, North Druid Hills is an In-The-Perimeter (ITP) neighborhood with more than 17,000 people. The community was developed in the 1950s and 1960s and is part of DeKalb County. Homes are spread across 12 subdivisions, and the architectural styles are predominately midcentury. “It is a suburban lifestyle, but we are less than 10 miles away from the city,” says Nancy Harris Keenan, who lives in the area and is a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty Peachtree. “You can get to anywhere in Atlanta within 20 minutes, but we have pockets of shops, restaurants and outdoor recreation nearby.”

Midcentury architectural designs near Atlanta
The properties in North Druid Hills are scattered throughout varying subdivisions that feature compact sidewalks that line curved streets. Most homes in the area were constructed between the 1950s and 1960s and offer midcentury architectural designs such as ranch homes, bungalows and American Foursquare. On the community's west side, homes have seen renovations and are now estate homes with contemporary flair. Maintenance-free living can be found in townhouses and condos. Prices range from around $250,000 to $700,000 for an attached property, while single-family units can go from around $500,000 to nearly $2 million. “Homes have appreciated so much value here, so it is not a place first-time home buyers are looking. Things are selling, but the market is steady, not moving fast or slow. People are moving because they need to move, not because they want to,” Harris Keenan says. North Druid Hills offers multiple places of worship among many denominations. Along La Vista Road, there are four synagogues, including Congregation Beth Jacob, the largest Orthodox congregation in Atlanta. Other notable places of worship include Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

Days at Kittridge Park or the community pool
Kittridge Park, also known as the Elwyn John Wildlife Sanctuary, is near the center of the area and is visited for its multiple ball fields, popular playground and the summer its community pool. The heavily forested park has 1.5 miles of walking trails to explore as it weaves through the woods. “There are 5 to 6 community pools, and each subdivision has one. I think that is pretty unique compared to other suburbs of Atlanta,” Harris Keenan says. One of the pools families can join is Briarcliff Woods Beach Club, which has a high and low dive, a clubhouse, and five tennis courts.
