Neighborhood rooted in mid-century suburban growth
Part of Northglenn, Hillcrest is a community resulting from the suburban expansion of the 1960s and 1970s. Located about 12 miles north of downtown Denver, the neighborhood is characterized by tree-lined streets and spacious sidewalks in front of ranch and split-level homes. “It’s very much a classic suburb, with all the classic characteristics,” says Sam Cardenas, real estate agent with Re/Max Northwest and longtime resident of Northglenn. “You get good space at a way better price than you would for the same thing in Denver, and so it’s popular with all sorts of people.” With convenient access to major highways, Hillcrest appeals to commuters and those seeking a quiet way of life away from Denver's congestion.
Established homes with classic designs that appeal to residents old and new
Hillcrest is home to predominantly ranch-style houses and other traditional styles like split-levels. Homes have brick exteriors, modest, well-maintained yards, attached garages and basements. “You can find a place big enough for a family,” says Cardenas. “And best of all, it’s usually modestly priced.” Prices generally range from $475,000 to $600,000 for a single-family home, and Hillcrest’s few townhouses and condominiums usually range between $250,000 and $375,000.
Students can prepare for STEM fields at Northglenn High
The Adams 12 Five Star Schools district serves families in Hillcrest. Elementary students can begin at Hillcrest Elementary School, which earns a C rating from Niche. Middle school students can go to B-minus-rated Silver Hills Middle School. High schoolers can finish at Northglenn High School, which also holds a B-minus rating and is the only school in the district with a STEM program that includes classes centered around engineering and biomedical science.
Go for a boat ride on Webster Lake
Residents enjoy access to several parks and recreational facilities nearby. Webster Lake at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park is a community staple, offering paddleboat rentals and fishing opportunities, while the park itself has playgrounds, picnic areas and walking paths. The park also hosts community events like the annual July 4th Family Festival and Winter Wonderland holiday lighting. Wyco Park provides open spaces, soccer fields and a baseball diamond. The Northglenn Recreation Center, a short drive away, offers fitness facilities, an indoor pool and programs for all ages, including youth sports leagues and adult education classes.
Denver is close, but Northglenn has plenty
Hillcrest residents benefit from shopping and dining options within the neighborhood, including Hillcrest Plaza – home to several specialty shops and services, along with Wing Cave & Grill. For groceries, residents have both King Soopers and Safeway just west of the neighborhood. The Northglenn Marketplace, just north of the area, has big-box retailers like Lowe's and Best Buy. Parry's Pizzeria & Taphouse, near Webster Lake, is known for its New York-style pizza and to Cinzzetti's Italian Market, offers a variety of Italian dishes in a buffet setting near Northglenn Marketplace. “Northglenn, especially around Hillcrest, is also home to some excellent Hispanic restaurants,” says Cardenas. “From 104th Avenue to 88th, there are several options for authentic Mexican cuisine and a couple of grocery stores, too.”
